How many months in advance do you plan your trips?

I am generally very impulsive, one day, out of nowhere I can stand up and travel somewhere far, totally randomly. I do things better when they are not planned. Alone or not, I don’t care. Usually my friends easily get encouraged by my adventurousness and they hop in to join as well.

Planning is not my best side, but I still do that. I am now planning a trip 4 months later.

When I was in school, I used to plan them a month or two in advance, because I already knew when I would have vacation. But now with an unfixed work schedule, I've been doing them on impulse. But usually it's not like, "Okay, I'm going to THIS place and that's that." I give myself a few options and then pick whichever one has the cheapest packages and best flights. But sometimes, I'll end up going somewhere completely different and on a couple of occasions, I've booked something just a couple days in advance, with very little time to research and prepare. I went to the Cayman Islands like this, which I never had any interest in visiting and actually ended up really liking the place

I have not taken a trip since 2008 but I planned it for about a month, maybe more. I went to New York city and I wanted to get tickets to see the Yankees play in old Yankee Stadium before it got torn down.

Depends. If it’s by myself sometimes I just go.

If it’s with friends then it has to be planned months in advance so they can take leave.

I have one friend that’s usually down for a random trip and we’ve left same day a couple times. The furthest I’ve been same day though is only 7 hours away.

Ohh I'm a homebody so I don't actually plan big trips 🤣 I was talking in hypotheticals based on what I'd prefer. But I imagine it wouldn't take too long. Most important part for me would be trying to figure out the layout for wherever I'm going. I'd want to be sure I'm efficient with my time when I'm there.

Ngl, I have had some fun with unplanned trips. Sometimes it helps to not have any plans so expectations aren't lost. It feels like more of an adventure that way. More exciting.

Both trips that I took this year, I booked the trip online on Sunday morning and took off Sunday afternoon. Usually I plan a bit more in advance, especially if I'm going to be traveling with someone else.

I planned like a month in advance to take a solo trip to visit a couple california missions north of here. i definitely wanna continue to see more of those.

My mom on the other hand plans years in advance for the big trips. she likes to be thorough as possible. its a bit inspiring to see really.

My SO and I plan our cruises about 18 months in advance. Shorter trips are planned 2-3 months in advance.

Me? Minutes! My wife, though, she plans months ahead, and that means we can travel hundreds of kilometres for under $20. You get serious discounts for booking ahead on the train.

Sometimes pretty spontaneous and other trips have planned 1.5 years in advance to get a good deal.

No. I sometimes travel with my friends. But they either don’t have money for the countries I want to visit or they are busy sometimes, so I have to go alone.

I have to plan a trip now that’s 3 months from now, usually I just plan a few weeks or a week before because I have to give notice to my job, but sometimes it can be very spontaneous

3 months for a flight and a couple days for a road trip
