How far in advance do you generally book vacation?

Small vacations which are cheap and have less flight time might get booked 3 weeks ahead of time while big vacations usually get planned 2 years ahead of schedule and booked 6-11 months ahead of time. A small last minute vacation plan we made was at a resort in Mexico during Christmas years ago, everybody had time off due to the holidays so it was easy to schedule that into our plans.

My trips are usually pretty impulsively so generally no more than 2-4 weeks ahead. If lots of paperwork is involved, I'll start a few months prior.
