Have you ever seen the Milky Way galaxy?

I live in southern California, we have this accursed thing called the "marine layer" which always hides the stars, plus all the smog and light pollution. I didn't truly see the Milky Way galaxy until I was 18, while hiking up a canyon in the mountains at night with my friends on a camping trip. The clouds rolled in and we were all on acid (LSD). We thought we were going to get caught in a flash flood and die. We were scrambling up the canyon at night to get away from the river. We stopped for a break and to smoke a joint. The wind picked up and carried the clouds away. The night sky was like black velvet and you could see every star. The Milky Way was like a big bright stripe across the sky, the first time I saw ever saw it clearly.

From a ship in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea that had no lights on. Most glorious sight. I have seen it from other places away from civilization, but never as brilliantly as that time at sea!

not with my bare eyes cause there's too much light pollution. but i could make them visible for me through long time exposure photographs of the night sky in the right time of year.

I live in a dark night zone so on a clear night I get a good view of the night sky. You want a new moon for the best dark skies to make it really pop out.

Away from artificial light is where you can really see it, so camping is great for that if you're not in some bullshit area that blocks it.
