Is it a waste of time to visit Europe and meet Europeans?

I mean, why travel to England and meet Brits? Where I live in the US, we have 1700s battlefields, and that's where my ancestors fought and killed British people.

And why travel to France or Quebec and meet Frenchies, when there are massacre sites and forts in the US? Again, that is where my ancestors got attacked and slain by French people and their violent Native American friends.

And why visit Spain and meet Spaniards? Where I live in the US, Spanish-speaking immigrants dominate the former mill towns and babble in Spanish (in America where the language is supposed to be English).

So why bother?

The U. S. is big and has some great stuff. But it hasn't been around long.

I love ancient history, architecture and culture.
For example, when I traveled the Romantische Straße (Romantic Road) area in Germany, I marveled at the real castles on hilltops. I was like "Wow! That's not a fake Disney castle! It's been there for 500 years."

I love old towns, traditional architecture and construction methods that are unique to each culture. And man-made wonders that are thousands of years old.

Even our neighbor Mexico has wonderful culture. I haven't traveled there extensively, but I absolutely loved Guanajuato and San Miguel Allende, which were built by the Spanish and have lovely, monumental architecture, charming plazas, streets, colorful buildings, and public sculpture. They are very beautiful, safe, comfortable places in which to walk and take in the culture. Great food, too. And the people are friendly.

I don't like modern cities much. Give me traditional towns that haven't changed for hundreds or thousands of years. And I've found people in places like that to be super helpful, friendly and accommodating.

I'm of German heritage, and the very last place I want to go is Germany. I realize that all Germans aren't assholes like they are on this site, but I'd rather spend my money in America.

Your best bet is to just stop in your state, don’t travel to anywhere else.
you also have a lot of places where your people killed other Americans. Following your logic, move to a state where Americans have not killed other Americans.

I too see destinations, where I ask myself "why should I waste my money being there for a week or 2?". But not for the nature of your reasons.

Depends on what you are into. Like since you brought up war history you could visit WWII fortifications or plane crash sites still to a extent or even fully intact.
