What is the BEST AIRCRAFT you've ever flown in?

I used to fly internationally, as a passenger, all over the world. Though I flew on several different airplanes on several different airlines, there was none better than the Boeing 747, the Queen of the Skies. It was spacious, smooth flying, and just an enjoyable experience.

What is your favorite/ best aircraft you have ever flown in?

And by the way, I'm with George Carlin, when they tell you to get on the plane, I get in the plane.

In the early 1980s, I paid to take a short ride on a B-17 out of Chino Airport in SoCal where they filmed the TV series 12 O'Clock High. It was noisy and windy, but WOW!

In the late 1990s, a friend gave me a ride in his Folland Gnat that he kept at Mojave Airport. He had a hot shot test pilot out of Edwards AFB take me up. The guy gave one heck of a ride. At one point, we went tree top level in a narrow, twisting canyon, then shot straight up. But he did other fun things too. And I got to take the stick at one point and roll it a few times to the left and then back to the right.
That was a thrill of a lifetime. A real bucket list item for me.

RE UPDATE: Before we were married my wife was working at a hospital about 300 miles away. I used to take a commuter aircraft to visit her. One day I got to the airport and there was a problem i with the the lights on the runway so that all flights were delayed. I went to the bar and after many beers finally the flight was ready to go. I boarded the plane which was a Beechcraft 88 a twin engine 8 passenger plane. The plane had no bathroom. After we took off I had to pee really bad. We landed about halfway to pick up more passengers so I ran into the terminal to pee. I could hear the pilot yelling at me and I just told him not to leave without me. After I peed I got back on the plane and the only seat left was a single seat in the back. I got in my seat and the pilot was trying to get the door closed. He slammed it and slammed it but it would not stay shut. Finally he got on the plane and pulled the door shut behind him with a chain. He handed me the chain and told me to hold the door shut. We would only be in the air about 20 minutes. Sure enough 20 minutes alter we were back on the ground. I lowered the door and got off first.
Fast forward a few years and on Paul Harvey news he told a story about a guy who was flying in a Beechcraft 88 in the same state I was in that had the back door of the plane suddenly open and he fell out. The pilot thought he fell to his death but after he landed he saw that the man was able to hang on to the chain until the plane landed.
I always wondered it it was that same plane and that the sirline never got it fixed.

Oh DEFINITELY a Gulfstream Seven! The G-5 is nice, but it’s a LOT smaller! Also, the G-7 is less affected by “wake turbulence” which is cause by the plane that landed before you, than is the G-5. They are just a LOT more comfortable. Also I got to join the Mile-High club (solo membership) on a G-7! So… Yeah they’re nice!

I did consider getting it after a friend of the family, who is (I believe the correct term is) Certificated flight instructor (?), began giving me lessons in a Cesna 182, and then a Piper Cherokee. I absolutely LOVED flying! I’m VERY seriously considering getting my people with IFR. I’d love to own my own small plane because my fiancé’s family live over 200 miles from where we plan on living after college. Also, they live a few blocks away from a small airfield in Hollywood, FL. But that’s in the future, at least 3 ½ years.

@exitseven Same here! But it’s still a really nice thing to have something to hope for in the future! People have the perception that piloting a small plane is SO dangerous, when more pilots die on their way to the airport in car crashes, than have died in plane crashes. My fiancé is really not in favor of me being in a small plane, let alone piloting one! While it would hurt to not get my license, and my own aircraft, I do understand that my actions affect more than just myself. I hope he comes around, but we are only in the earliest stage of our life together, there is plenty of time to at least try to change his mind. 🤞 Good luck to you.

If I had the funds I'd buy a Diamond DA60 Twin prop. Brilliant design and while it's built to run on jet fuel you can get older models that you can fill up at a standard pump.

I'd take a small aeroplane over a jetliner every time.

Don't know about the best, but the coolest was a two-seater with a fore and aft cockpit. The kind with glass all around. We talked to each other through a microphone and headset. It was an old single prop plane. I don't know what the plane was though.

I also flew in a helicopter which was pretty cool. I was belted in, but there was no door and I was right next to the opening. I was inches from a long way down.

I have flown in a 747, C-130, small privates and other commercials, including a MD11. I have also flown in a Navy SNJ/Army AT6.

I have toured a B52, C-5 B-25, B-17 and a Lockheed Connie.

A ride in an A-10 would be better than one with JLO.

Cessna 208 Grand Caravan. I went skydiving out one once. It was very quiet. Even for a turbo prop and the ride felt like we were just floating. Pretty solid machine if you ask me.

I have a lot of time is a basic Piper Archer, it's hard to beat that. If I ever bought a single engine piston I would look for a Piper Dakota (high performance but fixed gear to save complexity and insurance costs).

@msc545. You can't beat a Hershey bar wing. The Citation and Citation II have similar characteristics. With just a little coaching you could jump in a Citation and fly it without problem.

I haven't flown in years. I stick to the flight Sim. I have done enough of pattern work and local flights that it doesn't do much for me, and cross country for the $1000 hamburger ", ($100 when I started flying) is too expensive.
