What's the most harrowing experience you've ever had?

On Saturday morning and early afternoon I had a bad luck day. At first, I went to a store and coming home there was roadwork, so a detour was needed. I ended up lost despite the help of the car GPS because there were many closed roads. Still not familiar with some of them here.

Coming home, I drove in front of my garage, turned the car off, and put a plant outside that I was going to give to a friend that afternoon. I opened the car door, and the car began to slowly roll back. To my horror, I had turned the car off and didn't put it into park; it was still in drive. My garage driveway is on a slight incline, and I panicked as I grabbed the wheel and saw that it was heading towards guest parking with cars parked there. I was between the door and the car body, and thought to jump in to stop it but I am slower on my legs now and I feared not being fast enough, and risking the wheel going over my foot. This is an SUV, a Toyota Highlander, and so heavy and powerful. But I did turn the wheel and managed to avoid hitting the parked cars. It was in the middle of the road so I wasn't too close to them.

At this point a man and his family came out and I yelled for help. He came and saw what was happening, and managed to put the car in park while I held the door.

Lesson learned--always check the car gear before turning it off! I was a nervous wreck after it and am thankful that that man car out in time.
