I'd probably choose Japan if I could pick anywhere to go. I'd love to see Tokyo and maybe the countryside

we just went, it's worth going. A lot of Asia is worth visiting.

Yes cheap... and Japanese quality. Their special sweet melons, Hokkaido ice cream, BBQ... it's fun to explore. The hotel I thought expensive for what we got... more like a student dorm. Maybe there's better deals or areas. But food and shopping was good.
You should go while exchange rates are favorable. Hokkaido, Osaka, Kyoto were all nice, safe places. Hokkaido temp was very pleasant in summer, other places boiling hot. It's a diff world.
It just felt good to us.

I think it depends where you go. The inner city is awful but the secluded resorts are like a different city.
