Where are the friendliest and least friendliest places in America?

To me, the friendliest would be either New York City or Boston. The people in these two cities, especially the locals, are so polite and constantly smiling... it's like they don't know how to frown lol. The will be friendly enough to empty their wallets and purses to a stranger.

The least friendly would be somewhere in the deep South, like anywhere in Tennessee or North/South Carolina. Nobody smiles in these states, and everybody looks like they are going to cry, or attack you... or both lol. You say hi to somebody and they aggressively instruct you to "shut up!". Southern "hospitality" my butt!

can only speak from places I've been to/people I met. Oddly enough the South has both the rudest and friendliest, especially places like Texas and Florida. In Florida and Georgia I've encountered some of the friendliest but also the rudest people. Alabama people are usually very friendly, and Maui people were very friendly but not so much anymore I've heard. Most of Hawaii has become pretty rude. Alaska is another place where I've also encountered some of the friendliest and rudest people. Nevada and Montana people are very assholish. I think Montana is the worst. I've never met one nice person from Montana. I went to a McDonald's in Billings and never experienced such asshole customer service in the states and a Montana guy gave me a very hard time at work. People in Wyoming and mid-Western states also tend to be friendly, as well as Washington and Oregon has also gotten better.

I have to agree -- people in large cities are more accepting of people different from themselves. I live in Seattle where gay couples are able to be openly affectionate, holding hands or kissing in public.
