Ooooh yeah, Maine definitely has some super creepy vibes! With all the old colonial history and isolated forests, I can definitely see why it has so many ghost stories.

Stephen King for sure played a part in cementing its haunted reputation. Like who doesn't associate Maine with Pennywise and creepy mystical sh*t after reading IT? And he sets a lot of his books there which got people investigating local legends.

I remember reading once that the coastline has one of the highest concentrations of shipwrecks and lighthouses too. All those lost sailors over the centuries probably came back as ghosts! And like you said, so many old neglected cemeteries and unmarked burial sites inland. Major haunted vibes.

Even the native Wabanaki peoples have folklore about windsweighs (sea witches) luring people to watery graves. And you KNOW wherever there's witches and old mysterious drownings, there's bound to be hauntings!

I don't know if it's definitively the MOST haunted state, every place has its creepy places. But Maine definitely should be top 3 with all those factors! No way I'm vacationing there alone lol.

I mean don't get me wrong, I'm sure most of it is just legends and such. But there's gotta be at least a few actually haunted spots right? Like have you ever seen or heard anything weird? Or know of any local places with real ghost stories?

I guess living there your whole life, you'd get used to it after a while. But as an outsider Maine just seems like prime horror movie real estate! The woods must be pitch black at night too, no way I'd wander around in there. Props to you for not letting it bother you too much I guess!

I'd still be sleeping with all the lights on if I lived there, not gonna lie. Guess you learn to separate fiction from reality after so many Stephen King tales lol. Just don't go investigating any strange noises by yourself okay? I'd never hear the end of it if something happened to you!

Plenty of times, I live in the back ass if nowhere just under Canada's border. You'll see and hear weird shit. I'm more dangerous than most of what's up here, besides moose and wendigo.

But coastal and southern Maine is pretty good. Most don't live on the west end so I don't know about that area.
