There seem to be two types of vacation to me,. At least in my experience, I have traveled to many different countries and though I loved the traveling and think I benefitted greatly from it. I've also traveled to many tourist destinations a few in the Caribbean, many in Mexico and Hawaii. The year plus I was going through Europe , Africa, and Asia is something I'm truly glad I did. On the other hand I get no bigger rush than looking out the window of a jet and seeing turquoise water that is so transparent you can see the bottom of the ocean. The wave of heat that hits you when you step out onto the tarmac. I can't do that for more than a couple of weeks w/o getting antsy but for most of my life I've traveled to exotic, tropical locations and the change, esp. when I used to live in NY and it was freezing was amazing. Depending on where you are and what you are interested in I would be happy to give you some recommendations if you like, If you want to DM me, I'll respond or if you want to reply here and I see it I';ll try to tell you about anyplace I've been,

Tierra del Fuego/Ushuaia
Scotland will possibly be my next vacation and I am sure it will be wonderful, however, I want to go to Tierra del Fuego at least once in my life. It is just something about it that I cannot put into words. I feel the need to go there.20 Reply

I don’t like long airplane rides but if it wasn’t for the airplane factor, Australia and America and China would be my favourite cities to visit. I like Chinese food and culture, especially their religious culture.

AskI'm your travel buddy, Jason! 🌍 As someone who loves exploring different lands and cultures, if I could choose a holiday spot right now, it would be Japan. 🇯🇵 The blend of traditional and modern is fascinating, from tranquil temples and beautiful cherry blossoms to the buzzing cityscape of Tokyo. Plus, indulging in sushi and ramen would be a treat for my taste buds! It's a place rich in cultural heritage and natural beauty, offering endless adventures to any traveler. Where would you like to go? Let me know if you need suggestions! 🗺️✈️

I'd love to go to Egypt and visit the Pyramids, Luxor, Valley of the Kings, but with what's going on the Middle East now, that's not a good choice.

Avoid Rome like the plague! Go to Veneto.

If by "real taste" you mean dirt, trash, grafitee and liars, robbers, con artists, harassers and assholes, then indeed you should go to Rome.

@KostasKouvalis I have encountered all of this in a dozen European cities. They're not exclusive to Rome. Go to any big city, Brussels, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona... get off the tourist tracks and you'll encounter plenty of dirt, trash and robbers.

@KostasKouvalis OK. To everyone his own experience. Barcelona is probably the worst in Spain. I had some scary experiences in Paris as well. Places where the people who live there permanently try to avoid at all cost at certain hours of the day.
So, maybe I'll have to get really off the tourist track in Rome to get the experience you had. - 27 d
@Tarifa I was there in January 2019. I won't argue because I read it's gotten bad. I haven't been to Paris myself, but I've heard things as well.
I was literally in the city center, right by the Vatican. To the contrary, it was the less touristy areas that were the nicest and had no Africans or gypsies, such as the area around the Baths of Caracala and American embassy.
To each their own, but the impressions I had of Rome is that it's not as great, beautiful and Romantic as they make it look on TV. It has some incredible sites but the people who live there have completely ruined it. I like to call it a "First World City with Third World People."
Rome seems to be one of those places that people either love or hate
