I just found out about this place and it was so random. I was watching videos of Barack Obama admitting he was born in Kenya, and in one of the videos he said he was the first sitting US president to come to Kenya. So I Googled it to see if it's in fact true, and I found a Wikipedia list of "US Presidential visits to Sub-Saharan Africa." On some of the presidents it said they visited Gorée Island in Senegal. I digged a little deeper and found that the island is just 45 acres and home to just 1600 people, but is rich in history. During the colonial days, slaves were allegedly held here while they awaited shipment to the New World. Cars and crime are probited on the island.
