What's the best island you've been to in the Caribbean/why?

I am debating between Grand Cayman and Aruba for a trip

OMG, I was literally just thinking about this. I've been to Puerto Rico, Cayman, Guadeloupe, Grenada, Barbados, Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire

I still liked Curacao the most. The only thing I really didn't like was the people. But the cities, histotic sites, beaches, hiking and snorkeling, was the best I've experienced in the Caribbean. The island literally had EVERYTHING, and the climate is such that you can go year round. I also loved that it felt Latino, European and Caribbean all in one. I also loved being able to explore every nook and cranny without having to worry about my safety.

As for Cayman vs Aruba. Aruba is more interesting and has better beaches and is better for culture. And cheaper too and they use the dollar. However, the culture felt more Latin American then Caribbean, which for me wasn't a problem, but if you're looking for a more stereotypical Caribbean experience, you might prefer Cayman. It's also one of the best islands for nature and the snorkeling is better.

I personally liked Aruba better, but if you've never been to the Caribbean before, I'd probably suggest Cayman, as it feels more like the "stereotypical Caribbean". Aruba is extremely arid. And Cayman is easier to get around without a car.

Oh, and for the record, I didn"t go on a cruise. I actually stayed multiple days on each of these islands. Some of them over a week.

Only stopped at a few on a cruise-somewhere in Jamaica, Grand Cayman and some place in "Haiti". If you love beaches then cool, but I found myself bored on all of them. Cuba is probably the only one I'd be interested in.

I have been to both. In the Cayman Islands, driving is like they do in the UK, on the left hand side. Both islands are very beautiful. Aruba did get quite ruined by Hurricane Maria when I was there, so many things were closed, but they should be better now.

The best island I have been to is Puerto Rico. I have family there and I love the Old San Juan, full of history. The rest I have seen on cruises, after awhile look all the same, with the exception of St Maarten, on the Dutch side, which has a beach that the plans fly right over.

Ah, you're right. I meant Antigua. That was one of the islands I visited along with some others that had been damaged by a hurricane I can't name now, but I think it was Hurricane Maria. Aruba is closer to South America.

I've been to both Barbados and Antigua and I preferred Antigua because our hotel had better food, and the staff were nicer in Antigua because it was more integrative hotel.

Staff were also very nice in Barbados, but they hired people who spoke English with very heavy accents and the staff were too busy to have conversations with you.
