What are your thoughts of the Jewish or minority Christian tradition of resting for one day out of every week?

I've heard rumours some people practice time banking, where they work for 12 days in a row and then rest for 2 days in a row, instead of resting after every 6 days of work.

My dad's boss lets him do that at work, he can work on weekends in exchange for bonus vacation days off from his job so he can go on longer vacations when he wants to save money on plane tickets by booking only one trip instead of 2 at half the duration each. Over the years, our vacation frequency has decreased and our vacation length has increased each time we go on vacation. So the total vacation days is the same but the frequency we go on vacation is less.
