Yes, and I had several buckets and molds in the form of starfish, shells etc. My daughter had these as well.

As with all things made of sand, they eventually melt into the sea as the waves get bigger and stretch out farther. That sight always left me with mixed feelings as a kid: something I had built was washed away, but it was also logical that these fine grains of sand would regain their place as nature wanted it.

In the end, nothing that is built upon something weak - in real life or metaphorically - will stand the test of time.

although I've not been to the beach that many times, still... yes, I've built sand castles before... but I've done it much more with the sand that they used to use whenever they were building a new house or building somewhere nearby where I lived

and more than the castle... I liked to build sand bridges...

Sand castles and whole villages, then dig up a bunch of sand crabs to populate them.

In the most rudimentary fashion, sure.
But I was always more of a stony beach sort than a sandy beach sort. Preferred looking for crabs and caves along the shoreline than pratting about with sandcastles.
