Shall I give in to this to keep peace?

My older sister had been trying to call me and I wasn’t able to return the call yet. I will tomorrow. However she then texted and said she and my younger sister were planning a family vacation cruise, to a destination I am not crazy about. She has a friend who is a travel agent and she needs to know by Saturday. Otherwise she won’t be able to get this great deal the agent told her about.
I’ve been to the Caribbean many times, mostly to Puerto Rico where I have family. The destination she wants to go to is the Bahamas. I am not a fan of beaches and roasting under the sun. That’s just me.
If I refuse, I think it’ll make me look somewhat bad. However, inside I think, it sounds like the agent is using this short time as bait. And two, why didn’t we all decide on a place to cruise to or go to, if it’s a family thing? It shouldn’t be up to one person where we all should go, right?

Whenever you hear about a "great deal" and you have to act now to get it, take it with a very large grain of salt. There are always good deals. If you miss one there will be more. You should never be rushed to make a quick decision on something like this.

If it really is a great deal, either you would recognize it as such, or you are just going by what some marketing person says, which means virtually nothing.

Bottom line is that you have to decide if you want to go. If you don't want to go then don't. Family shouldn't be pressuring you into it, especially at the last minute.

If they want a family vacation, plan it properly instead of rushing it. Throw around ideas and discuss multiple possibilities. Then wait for a good deal. If you have a plan ahead of time and do your homework, you'll recognize a deal when you see one.

Great answer. I won't be going, but I did tell my younger sister that I hope in the future we could all plan for one together, and put some ideas out there instead of this. I don't like the destination of cruise my older sister picked out, and she left out a brother who they both don't like. Family vacation/reunion should include everyone.

I think you need to ask your family these questions and hash it out. You can either go and try to enjoy yourself or politely decline. If you go don't forget you don't have to be up each other's ass's the entire time. If they want to scorch in the sand you don't have to or just go back to the hotel when you've had enough sun.

My theory is life is too short. If you like you're family, it should not matter where you are more than who you're with. You decide if you have fun no matter where you are.

You can go and when you get back say hey next time include me earlier so we can discuss destinations. If asked why just say it would be fun to plan together.

In actuality and being honest, the one calling me up and planning this with my younger sister and not along with me, I have had feuds with, because she feels the need to call the shots about everything. If I ever decide to do something, she goes against it. It’s been this way for years, since we were young.

I don't know why you are even considering this an issue. If you don't want to go, don't go. And by the way, I AM a travel agent, and most of the Bahamas SUCK, unless you're going to one of the smaller, remote "out islands". Freeport and Nassau are gross and there's no reason to go there. Cruising isn't the greatest either, in my opinion, but that's a personal call. Point is, it's a lot of money to spend on something you don't like or want. Say no thanks, yesterday.
