Have you ever been a camp counselor?

There are dozens of movies more or less centered around camp counselors. Is this really that big of a part of western culture? I went to camp one summer. I remember it, but i never really looked back. I definitely didn’t become a camp counselor. I think an outsider looking in might think that camp is a bigger deal in America than it really is, based on pop culture.
Did you go to camp? Did you go on to become a camp counselor at some point?

I was never a camp counselor, but I did help open up a YMCA camp in the Spring several times when I was in college. In addition to my "handyman" duties, some of my time involved managing the teenagers who were there to get things cleaned up , which also included monitoring the cabins late at night, making sure the boys and girls didn't get too friendly with each other.

He would actually throw me around the room and knock me around and he would say do you see this muscle on this finger, then hit me in the face I was like 12 years old if I was wearing a T-shirt, he would tear it

Why didn’t your parents do anything about that blatant abuse?

I told my mom and in those days nobody really did that much. I think she called but they played it down.
