Do you like driving cars from before 2000?

I have noticed in the past 5 years of driving cars that cars before 2000 on average are more reliable and cheaper to maintain than newer vehicles.

I used to be a car enthusiast. But one thing I've learned is that other than nostalgia, a 20 year old car is never as good as current cars from a performance standpoint. My 2020 ho hum mid-size sedan would have been radically revolutionary in 1990.

• Automatic correction for understeer and oversteer
• Traction control
• Antilock braking
• Direct fuel injection
• Tire technology 3 generations ahead in rubber compounds and tread design
• Intelligent cruise with braking to zero and resume
• Lane keeping assist
• High beam assist
• Blind spot monitoring
• Auto forward emergency braking
• Auto cross traffic alert
• Auto rear emergency braking
• High end audio system
• Navigation system
• Integrated phone and text
• Overall performance on par with high end sports cars from the early 90's

Complex? Yes. Expensive to fix? Yes. But a better driving car that is safer and cheaper to operate.

The more electronics a car has, the more things will go wrong in the long run. Most repair shops need to connect your car to a computer to find out how they can solve an issue.

Yeah. You still could repair them yourself reasonably well. I don’t even want to try that with today’s half battery, half computer, all crammed together examples. 😵
