Here's a list of 7 things, ranked from 1 to 7 ...

1 - St Davids
2 - Cardiff
3 - Swansea
4 - Saint Asaph
5 - Wrexham
6 - Bangor
7 - Newport

Do you know what this is a list of? What are these things on the list and what do they mean? Why are they ranked like this?

They are 7 cities in Wales, ranked from worst (7) to best (1) as determined by YouTuber "The Absolute Ranker" in his posted video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sxigk-j5Us

If I may correct your spellings.


1 - Dinas Tyddewi
2 - Caerdydd
3 - Abertawe
4 - Llanelwy
5 - Wrecsam
6 - Bangor
7 - Casnewydd


Other than that I've zero idea why the cities are in that order. Definitely not size or age. Tempted to say tourist destinations but number 3 is a shit hole. Got a feeling it's when they were granted city status.

@purplepoppy Thank you for this. I was tempted to use the native spelling but decided to use the English spelling from the source I used, which will be given tomorrow. The ranking does have something to do with tourism.

I find it interesting that the football club in Wrecsam uses the English spelling Wrexham.

That's because they play in the English league. The top one is just a short drive from me and the population can triple in tourist season. A pilgrimage there is worth one to Jerusalem to clear your sins which is pretty handy for me.

1 - St Davids/Dinas Tyddewi (City of the House of David.) Like Saint Asaph it's really just a village of 2000 people. More importantly it's pretty close to me. Only really exist as a city because of it's importance to Christianity. I'd agree this is the nicest city but more interesting towns nearby.

2 - Cardiff/Caerdydd (Fort on river dydd). Only been a few times. The glass roof shopping arcades save the place and are much nicer than the tacky shopping centre.

3 - Swansea/Abertawe (mouth of river tawe) rebuilt after being flattened by the Germans, feels it was rebuilt on the cheap. Wind Street well worth a visit for a night out and I like the indoor Market but that's about it.
4 - Saint Asaph/Llanelwy (Church on river elwy). Not familiar with it but looking at video looks OK but not worth a visit.

5 - Wrexham/Wrecsam. Been here a few times. Truth is places nearby like Chester or Llangollen are nicer but Wrexham isn't that bad and worth a ling-di-long if your in the area.

6 - Bangor. Name means a wattlefence enclosure in welsh or horned point in Irish. Bangor in Maine is named after a hymn. Like a lot of places on the North Wales coast it feels like a place that's lost it's way. A place granny went on holiday but not anymore.

7 - Newport/Casnewydd (contraction of Newcastle) never been but aware of it reputation. It's problem is largely geographical as money in the area flows either to Cardiff or Bristol. Funfact when the French added Camelot to the King Arthur tales they based it on Caerleon next door.

I don't know. I would guess population, but I never heard of St. Davids so it can't be that big. I heard of Cardiff and Swansea.
