Pretty much never. Cruises basically suck. The accommodations are expensive and uncomfortable unless you pay the fortune for them. And the food is plentiful in most cruises but also mediocre. In other words, you get a lot of very bad food. If you stop someplace, you won't be there for very long. And in fact, not long enough to really enjoy the place. I've been to Caribbean islands that I really wanted to explore on a cruise. But I had to go stand in line and come back. And that was about it. Don't go on a cruise and don't waste your money. If you want to go someplace then just go there, spend the time you want to spend and the money you want to spend.

Fall is nice except in the Caribbean it can still be hurricane season into the fall. Springtime is probably overall the best season, or even winter if it is to a warm area.

These days you have to be very careful because the major cruiselines have turned into party ships for gansta’ culture -- watch the horror videos on YouTube. The only way to take what used to be a traditional cruise is to go on a premium ship such as Sterling (the equivalent of the American Express Black Card for cruises). The Love Boat-type cruiselines, Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean, are all trash now.
