Do you believe the recent theories that Titanic was switched with the heavily damaged Olympic as part of an elaborate and botched insurance scam?

A century of people died believing the story they were told, while a handful of shipping executives at Harland & Wolff knew the full truth, just for a bit of dosh. James Cameron believed it enough to make a billion dollars movie of it; a horrible movie which is celebrated to this day. I saw for myself (at the Titanic exhibit at the MGM Luxor) the altered portholes of the switched ships.

The White Star Line which owned Titanic exists to this day, first as Cunard White Star, and then just Cunard. They run the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Elizabeth, two of the most luxurious ships on the sea. When the Titanic disaster happened, Mary had only been queen for 2 years; there was no Queen Elizabeth yet, she wouldn't come along for another 50 years.

I suppose it is possible. My next door neighbor was a ships captain for EXXON. He was offered the job of being the captain of the EXXON Valdez after the infamous oil spill. He said that EXXON was grinding any mention of the name "Valdez" off it's hull and renaming it the "Mediterranean. He declined the job.

The idea that the Titanic was secretly swapped with the damaged Olympic is one of the most persistent maritime conspiracy theories. It has been around for many decades. Historians, engineers, and physical wreck analysis all point to the same conclusion: the Titanic that sank was the real Titanic, not the Olympic in disguise.

Watch the documentary. There are provable, physical differences you can verify with historic records. For example, the forward deck of Titanic had 16 portholes, but Olympic had 14. The ship at the bottom of the sea has 14. Not 14 plus two missing, or possibly missing, 14 that have been verified. There are dozens of examples of features like this. Another example, Olympic had a second keel added for stability when it was repaired from its September 1911 crash. Titanic, which had just been built when it sailed, only had its original keel. Again, the ship on the bottom of the ocean has its original keel and the second repair keel.
