On top of that, when your currency—such as the dollar—is converted into Turkish lira, prices become very affordable.

Yup. I've spent time in Iskenderun and other parts of Turkey. I've experienced the Çilingir Sofrası. Been introduced to Meze. And discovered Raki / Lion's Milk. Good times with good people.

I used to hate anise flavored liquors. But Lion's Milk with savory Meze dishes made the anise make sense to me. It sort of cleans your palette between different foods. I've sat there for hours eating and sipping slowly without getting drunk or overstuffed.

But the hospitality thing is a little overhyed. No one gave me free tea or invitied me to their home. My mom told a shop owner she doesn't know if our house is standing, because a fire brokeout right before we left and the guy didn't offer her a free rug

I generally ask Is there any discount for students and they make me discount because Im student. by the way another story one day I didn't have money Because I had forgatten my wallet at home , and I was thirsty. I asked the shop owner and He gave me for free. I said I will bring the money later but he never take it. Another story one day I day I shopped from market. And the total cost was very high And I couldnt pay I needed a little bit more money. And suddenly employee Its okey Its from us but on the other hand I saw someone in the reflection of the glass making hand gestures to the employee, indicating that he would pay. I pretended I didn't know anything and left.

Only one Turk on plane offered me his cookie and once ice cream vendor forgave me one lira when I was short, which won't happened in US. He was probably overcharging anyways.

Some tourists said they understood the price wrong and the guy chased them down. So THEY can scam, but we can't scam THEM.
In Austria during cold war my parents said Austrians would beat them if they scammed. In the US, they would be arrested for scamming
