For those who have been to India, what is it really like to visit?

Okay just want to know , but for those who have been to India , what's it like , what are the people like , is the food really good too , etc.

I hope my comment doesn't offend anyone but as someone who's been to India countless times I feel like I can give an accurate testimony of what I've witnessed over the years. The food is AMAZING but almost everything else is a cultural shock. The country is overpopulated and there's poverty everywhere, although the hotels where I've stayed were always 5 star and top tier the roads can be really dirty and the traffic is INSANE. People tend to stare or be really close to you, personal space is almost non existent. Some areas can be more developed than others but and some areas can have limited resources with people living in extreme poverty, you might see people walking barefoot outside or people who barely have access to daily showers. I'd say that most hotel restaurants are safe, I personally never had any issues but I wouldn't recommend trying street food.

Unlike the cringy AI bot spammer, I have actually been there. It is interesting to visit, but it was dirty, the people were rude, and I was given the worst case of food poisoning in my entire life.

The streets are intense: colors, honking, spices in the air, cows wandering calmly. People are generally warm, curious, and hospitable; many love to chat and help, sometimes a bit insistently in touristy areas.

The food is incredible: rich curries, street chaats, dosas, biryanis. I still dream about buttery naan from Delhi and fiery fish curry in Kerala 😋

The large majority of people are dirt poor. Like poor you have ever seen before. Brutally poor with absolutely nothing many times.

They mainly seem happy and well groomed though.

They will drive a hard bargain if you let them for souvenirs. They can be a bit like scammers in that regard. Money though can go a long way if not in an area where they are trying to dig in your pockets so to speak. Women get treated differently by some there, not in a good way. Buy souvenirs, just be aware. Don’t buy handmade rugs. Get them on amazon. Be careful of buying expensive things.

Don’t drink a Coke unless you see them open it. Don’t have ice in your drinks as it is made with filthy water. Don’t have dairy, I made the mistake of having a Lassie at a 5 star hotel and was very sick. I have been to India 8 tines or so but not in the past 10 years so it has changed somewhat.
