Have you ever been to Stonehenge and what was it like?

I went there today.

The UK is strewn with dolmens, standing stones, stone rings, etc. But stonehenge is the most visibly impressive. I think what's particularly interesting is the stones come from the far corners of the uk. The big ones from 20 miles away, the blue ones from my back yard 140 miles away and one from Scotland 446 miles away. All moved when Briton was thick woodland and swamp by people who were soon to disappear as waves of modern Europeans moved in.

But what's really sad is something that was built for thousands of people to gather around is now cordoned off. Somehow prehistoric man could be trusted with it but we can't

Eight years ago, I was part of a Stonehenge tour led by a historian. Our group visited a nearby henge and then walked across the field up the hill, on "the road", and entered the stones, something that is typically not allowed to the general public. It was amazing to see The Stones up close. Our only rule is that we couldn't touch the stones. I have several pictures of Stonehenge, from far away, and of individual stones up close.

30 years ago with the family. Even then it already was cordoned off like in your pictures.

No, but I would really like to see it someday.
