His representatives announced today Daniel Day-Lewis is retiring.
The 60-year-old actor has had many successes and he is widely known as one of the best actors ever (not just 'of his generation').
Due to his method-acting approach to his craft the roles weighed on him - sometimes more than the average viewer can ever imagine.
His career spans from 1971 up until 2017.
Awards: Oscars - 3, Golden Globes 2, BAFTA - 5...
Some of his most famous movies include:
The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
There Will Be Blood (2007)
Gangs of New York (2002)
I see what he's doing here...leaving us wanting more.
Thank you for all the great movies you gave to us!

This is a guy who would devote YEARS to a character, doing extensive research and interviews prior and who would stay in character during shooting. As LittleSally stated, this was incredibly taxing on him, and while it enabled him to deliver outstanding and award-worthy performances, I don't blame him for choosing to retire after almost 40 years of giving it his all.
Of course I'll miss his acting in the future, but at least we have his excellent (if small) catalog of existing movies, several of which are in my Top 20 of all time.
