What is so terrible about wishing someone a Merry Christmas?

First of all instead of talking about wishing somebody a Merry Christmas you should be talking about what is really doing being the president of the United States that has no off button and thinks he should be flapping his lips about nonsense in about him all day long we are all wise enough to understand that is form of manipulation first of all to keep you in mind someplace else instead of focus on all the negative that he's done since he's been in the office all the destruction that he is causing even at this moment is it manipulation Merry Christmas hasn't gone anywhere it was Thanksgiving time before Thanksgiving we all say Merry Christmas you don't need to be told that he is doing something are that he's the one that just came up with that catch phrase if you pay attention we all look at it as Donald Trump when the presidency I look at it as this is Donald Trump's downfall he will be impeached he will lose his name on all his golf courses in restaurants and casinos and hotels is called karma for doing all the bad things that he's done in life to people and then he still continuing to do to this day his name will be discredited
NOOOOO PLEASE NOOO LOL... he definitely has changed the world if you believe in God maybe we all need this wake up call because that's where we were headed to be a little trumpsters there comes a point in time where we must change so maybe he's using Trump for us all to get disgusted so fed up just like all the people were when they voted for him but we need to do it in a productive way not in a joking way
Wishing someone "Merry Christmas" is usually fine. Many secular or or non-Christian people enjoy the Christmas season or the resulting time off from work in their own ways and do not take "Merry Christmas" the wrong way.
Friends or extended family with different cultural backgrounds usually come to an understanding that "Merry Christmas" is an unloaded greeting of well wishes but one that acknowledges the specialness of the Christmas season to many people, including the person who says it.
If an acquaintance or business colleague has explicitly said they feel threatened by Christmas, then wishing them "Merry Christmas" could be seen as malicious and thus should absolutely be avoided.

It’s not terrible, it’s just very Christian-centric. It’s not that I’m insulted or offended by hearing it, I just like to be inclusive of other winter holidays and not assume that Christmas is the only holiday that people care about. Coming from the president, who represents our government, I’d much prefer to hear “happy holidays”, or to see other winter holidays memotioned specifically in addition to Christmas.

@jon28805 You too!
Yeah, it is too bad. Too bad that the president of our country is not being more inclusive of the varied religions and beliefs of the citizens whom he has agreed to govern.
You’re right, I don’t like a lot of what he does, but it absolutely matters. You may not be a liberally but you’re clearly angry. Or acting angry, anyway. I can’t assume to know how you actually feel.
Some people act like liberals are these delicate snowflakes who are always upset about stuff, but... everyone has issues that they care about. That’s why you posted this question, right?
I don’t want to stop people from saying it, at all. It is absolutely fine to wish someone a Merry Christmas. I do it all the time, but I’m mindful about it. If I don’t know the religious beliefs of the person I’m talking to, or I’m talking to a group of people with varying beliefs, then I might say “happy holidays” instead. If I know I’m talking to someone who is Jewish, I’ll probably wish them a happy Hanukkah. And in the context of a more public or political setting- such as coming from the POTUS- I don’t want to hear it because it’s dismissive of other religions. That’s not how the president should be behaving. He can celebrate whatever he wants in his own home, but publicly, he needs to be inclusive. We are not supposed to be a Christian nation.
And as someone who is Jewish myself, I’m particularly aware of this issue, in a way that you may not be if you’re Christian. Would you like to hear just “Happy Hanukkah” from the government of your country?
Really? I guess that’s very easygoing of you. But still, there’s not the same history of oppression and exclusion with Christianity, so perhaps it’s difficult to compare.
I’m not a victim and don’t claim to be one, but it is definitely a very real issue, and a sensitive topic for those who care about it. Which, clearly, does not include you, so there’s probably no point in continuing to discuss this.
You too 😊
Because not everbody celebrates Christmas and it's also because Christmas has the word Christ in it, sense our society has gotten really anti Christian these days, they foam at the mouth at anything that leans towards it. I'm surprised people haven't even gotten triggered at certain names Christopher or Christina.
I actually think it bothers right wingers more than left wingers. I'm not religious and I dont care if people say Merry Christmas (even if it is archaic language). Happy holidays sounds more cheerful though.
Good to know trump is tackling the important stuff.
I dont like what you said! you're a racist! Wow, that went fast from nowhere. When thats the first thing that comes to mind, you may need to take a reflection period and realize that you are the racist. But im a minortity! I can't be racist. You are just one of those half wits that believe the hype you're fed about how everything should be free. Nothing is free. You likely believe that all illegals should be allowed to stay too. Yeah! Lets everybody break the laws and not follow rules. Great plan. You probably think its so bad where they came from too because youve never been outside the country. I pity the US where self worth is calculated on TV size and phone brand. I dont like Hillary for numerous reasons. Guess im sexist. I didn't like Obama because with him, I've never seen the country so divided. Guess im racist. The person i wanted for president didn't run. Condoleezza Rice. Also would have liked Ben Carson. Oh wow. They aren't white. What was i thinking? Can this be?
It's most likely because I'm not American, but I have no idea what's going on and why it is a bad thing to wish merry Christmas. Where I come from there's only one way to say it and everyone uses the same sentence. 😐

First of all, many of you have it dead wrong. It's not the liberals that started this "war on Christmas" it's been the right wing. This all starters when Starbucks put happy holidays on a cup and people lost their sh*t because they didn't say merry Christmas. No one cares what you say, nobody gives a sh*t. Conservatives are the ones that literally made it a big deal based on a coffee cup. Now that's really snowflake behavior.
And no am not a leftist liberal, am an independent. But l can call out BS when l see it.
Because they don't want to have "Christ" anywhere. How do you think, why is it "X-mas"? Because "Christ-mas" is offensive to other religions, to atheists and to god knows who else.
It's all bullsh*t.
P. S. Some people will go crazy about it just because it's Trump who suggested it.
Christians should actually welcome the occasional use of the X in Christmas, as it comes from a very old Christian practice.
When early Christian monks were transcribing the New Testament from the original manuscripts they would often mark an X character to represent the word Christ, because of it being cross like.
I don't feel offended. I'm not a Christian, and i would rather be honoured if a Christian friend wished me Merry Christmas.
Makes me feel a part of their family - the same brethren
I wish my Muslims friends happy Eid ul Fitr, I wish my Hindu friends Happy Diwali, and I'm not Muslim or Hindu. So why is it wrong to wish people Merry Christmas?
I'm sure the people who are upset about this are still happy to receive gifts for Christmas 😂
@TangledTK I thought that was normal thing to do? Lol
There is nothing wrong with it. The issue seems to be that some people have this assumption that if you wish them a Merry Christmas that you are discounting their religion or traditions. As a pagan, you may wish me a happy Yuletide, or a Merry Christmas doesn't bother me at all. Just be prepaired for a "Happy Yule" back.
Seems cool to me
Even my non Christian friends who don't know anything about christianity except tge fact that birth of Jesus ( a rough idea that he was a God) wish each other Merry Christmas. What's wrong?
We do it and nobody feels offended or embrassed lol
Well, i think we should not do it in that case.
Christmas means different things to different people,(i. e. religions), but there's nothing wrong with wishing someone happiness so long as they don't shove their personal definition of the holiday in the person's face. Then it's no different than wishing them happy New Years.
Because it hurts the feelings of liberal fruitcakes. It's pretty weird that people could be offended by a Merry Christmas.
Because people are idiots and are grasping at straws to try and make Trump look bad. Dumbass SJWs.
Happy Flying Spaghetti Monster Day!!!
Lmao nice
There's nothing wrong with it, people are too annoying theses days.
Because it’s trump
And it should be happy holidays because some people don’t celebrate Christmas they celebrate Kwanzaa or Hanukah or things like that
There are many people that celebrate these holidays.
So should i get offended when somebody tells me happy ramadan? Seems always one sided on the topics. Should celebrate our differences, not repress them. shouldn't allow christianity in public, but need to be forced to respect lgbt and should change the US language to Spanish. Liberals.
When you only praise and recognize a single religion you are also saying that the other ones are unwelcome.
Maybe because its Christmas !!!
merry Christmas everyone ! lol
Because if a owner of a company mandates that everone says marry Christmas then the workers who don't believe in religion or holidays being forced to participate in that holiday
No but other people would be forced to say it if they wish 2 keep their job
It's not that people are necessarily offended, it's just that saying Marry Christmas excludes all the people who don't celebrate Christmas. If the president was Jewish would it be okay for him to only put "Happy Hannukah" on the card?
It'd be ok to make 2 cards though
Wouldn't that make your holiday feel even more discredited though? To not even be worth mentioning?
(Not being a dick, actually trying to talk)
I guess I am confused as to what the big deal is with just saying Happy Holidays? The US is a country that has so many different religions and people, why would the president send out a card that only appeals to people who celebrate Christmas? I feel like the president of the US is supposed to represent all the people of the US.
Because rather than just taking it as a compliment and saying whatever they believe in back, people would rather get offended that it is not their religion. Say Merry Christmas and i might say Happy Festivus back just because.
It's not politically correct anymore. Happy Kwanza!
Because a jew, muslim or athiest that rejects Jesus Christ that might be offended you wish them a marry Christmas.
They don't want to here you wish them that because it offends them.
because everyone gets butthurt about every little thing
Because libs are offended too easily.. I'm athiest.. I still say merry Christmas.
