@Waffles731 I think the main issue is that the US in general leans way more to the right on the political spectrum, than Canada does. Our federal Conservative Party, which is actually a fairly recent amalgamation of the Canadian Alliance (a right leaning populist party) and the Progressive Conservative parties, is closer in line with the Democratic Party. Both parties are slightly right of centre, and seem to have similar views in terms of fiscal responsibility, economics, social policies, etc.

Our Liberal Party (Trudeau's party) is left of centre, and is probably a party that Bernie Sanders would be a member of, if he were Canadian. He's a Senator in Vermont so he's practically Canadian already, lol. The maple syrup state.

The NDP is even more left of centre. I could see Bernie agreeing with this party as well. They are my party - I am actually a member and a campaign donor to local candidates.
