When I watch the video, I get the impression that they tried to convey a message that I (and probably most men) actually agree with: It is possible to be a man without being male chauvinistic, misogynistic, violent, a rapist, and all the other negative associations that are linked to men, and that we men should all strive to be the "right" kind of men (preserving our masculinity and self-esteem without mistreating women and other people in general). I also think they tried to tell us that those of us who are not "bad" men should stand up to those who are.
But I do believe that they failed and instead communicated that men ARE all the negative things that the male gender has been associated to, and that we all need to change.
It annoys me when big companies release politically correct material. It is great that they wish to support the fight against various issues in society and in the world, but this feels like a media stunt to remain on good terms with the female customers.
As I recall, Gillette's advertisements for male products often emphasise masculinity in one way or another, but they are only telling men to feel like masculine, feel in control of their lives, feel attractive and so on. They are not telling men to be anything I would consider negative, and as such this apology they have released is unwarranted.

Interesting. I wouldn't say they "messed up" from a marketing perspective since obviously everyone is talking about them now, although I'd be interested to see exactly how it impacts their sales. From a moral perspective though, I think it's really stupid. Even though the overall message is positive (to treat other people with respect and kindness, stop bullying, stop harassing others, and stop making excuses for poor behavior and bad judgment) they lose all credibility by assuming it's only men who are acting this way.
I see women acting just as negative towards each other and towards men every day. Women bully, women harass, women make excuses for their shitty behavior all the time, just like some men do. The last line of the commercial says "men need hold other men accountable" but I think it should be "people need to hold other people accountable." It doesn't matter if it's a man or a woman mistreating others, if I see it, I WILL call them out on it.
In reality, a lot of people these days are just not nice people. The commercial (in my humble, non-marketing focused opinion) should have spread the ideal of positivity and kindness for everyone, instead of targeting only men. But hey, what do I know?

There are also a lot more options. You can buy variety packs of razors and try 10 different razors that are manufactured from places all over the world. Generally speaking, Germany, England, and Japan make the best razors and have always made the best razors.
Anyways, I thought I would mention safety razor shaving since it's really a cool way to shave. You could also get a straight razor. I did that for a while and gave it up since it was too time-consuming.
Gillette definitely caught everyone's attention which is very important when it comes to marketing and advertising. However, this was definitely a strong attack on men and the person behind it is a feminist. No surprise there. Since most of their customers are men, the company is going down because like many articles have stated, men are ditching Gillette razors and moving to companies that Gillette competes against.
I just realized something... since the person behind the commercial is a feminist, maybe it was her intention to bankrupt the company since most of its customers are men.

Confession to make. Many years ago, I used to work for this fucking company. I decided that its corporate values didn't match my personal ethos, and got the fuck out. I've never regretted that. They can talk about toxic masculinity all they damn well please - they're a toxic corporation.
This kind of vacuous virtue signalling is exactly what I'd expect from them, and they will figure they can get away with it because
1) P&G (who own Gilette) have a huge market share of the world's razor market.

It's not a bad thing. It doesn't make me want to buy a gilette razor, but gillette razor is what I use and what I will continue to use. It's a good thing that they are trying to stomp out "boys will be boys".
If you translate "Boys will be boys" to what it literally means it's basically... "He's just a guy, guys are stupid, just pay no attention to it, act like it didn't happen." One key part that really stood out in that video was that men need to hold themselves accountable for their own actions.

Little boys are more rambunctious and physically and schools are punishing them for it and they are falling behind in school. The saying boys should be boys should be said more often because apparently teachers aren't getting. This is why we need more female students.
You need to let boys fight it out, more so when they get a little older than in the video, because you can break the fight up once a winner is obvious. If you break it up to early they are likely to go straight back to fighting, only this time you won't be there to help and break it up and the kids are likely to get way more hurt.

Maybe Gillette thinks this commercial and contraversey will grow the number of women who buy Gillette products and that might be true which would certainly mean more profits as they for some reason charge a lot more for women's razors and shaving foam probably because they know we women will pay that bit extra.

Not true at all, men are much less likely to report being a victim of ipv than women due to battered husband syndrome, societal shame, the fact that they are less likely to be believed and the fact that when police are called out to a domestic disturbance they will arrest the husband/boyfriend regardless or not if he is the victim.
