RESPONSE TO UPDATE:

Notice that the "Muslim Community Patrol" is self-funded, not government funded.
That's fine - no different than any other private security firm such as the ones used by banks and buildings or whatever. They certainly are not enforcing Shariah law.

What is disturbing - and many Muslims are disturbed by it as well - is that the cars do look like NYPD cars. That __should__ change and the City ought to tell them to change the pattern or take them to court.
