I don't really care what gender of sponge he has sex with. I loved the series as a kid and have fond memories. Definitely part of the golden age of Nick, with Invader Zim, Avatar and Drake & Josh.

but kids cartoons have always had straight couples don't they? So why not a lgbtq member in a kids series? It only educates children.
@JoonieBestBoi The social justice bombardment has ruined almost every movie and tv show. There is a difference between having a gay character and making a point of pushing an agenda. Which is what they do when they make a point of making a big deal about it.
Shows aren't being 'ruined' just because they decided to spread awareness and teach children about the lgbtq community. There is also no 'agenda-pushing' being used in kids shows, just for the sake that a show acknowledges it has a non-straight character. It should be normalized to have gay characters without needing the accuse of 'it's just for the agenda'
@JoonieBestBoi Yes they are. Shows used to have actual plot and story and now they push an agenda first and then wrap the story around the agenda.
They need to stop checking quota boxes and allow shows to be authentic.
The fact that you think movies aren't what they used to be doesn't have to do anything with the fact that lgbtq people were introduced (and trying to be normalized) in movies. If a movie or serie wouldn't have a gay character, wouldn't mean that the plot suddenly changed. If the movie would be centered around the 'agenda', as you keep calling it, it would be a movie centered around lgbtq. The authenticity of a movie doesn't have anything to do with the fact that there happens to be a gay character in the film. Their sexuality shouldn't matter if it doesn't matter for the plot, but that shouldn't mean that it can't be disclosed in a movie, because in this society we assume everyone is straight, which isn't right.

So taking spongebob (and likely patrick will follow) from being just wacky to a gay character simply because he is “happy” and colorful is wrong. It says that because he is flamboyant, he must be gay. Telling kids that flamboyant males must be gay.
Just because movies are being remade with different characteristics doesn't mean the story changes. The ghostbuster movie stayed the same, except for the fact that the main characters now were depicted as women. More and more characters are being portrayed as black or a different race in to show diversity in remakes doesn't change the plot and story of a movie. Take for example the Harry Potter movies, the films (made in roughly 2001) only portrayed like 2 characters as black and 1 character as Asian in the movie. In the books (that came before the films) nothing was disclosed that there weren't more characters black.
The little mermaid, as you took as an example, is indeed a northern character, written in Denmark. Even if so, doesn't mean the actress should be a white women, people can be northern and still be black.
As for spongebob being announced to be a member from the lgbt, doesn't mean Patrick will follow. Spongebob isn't just 'suddenly' gay, but had always been gay, even if it wasn't disclosed. Also nothing was disclosed that just because spongebob happens to be a flamboyant character and always happy, it means that is the reason that spongebob is a part of the lgbt. 'Wacky' and 'gay' aren't interchangeable components. Just because it is his personality doesn't mean those are the characteristics of a gay person. And this doesn't mean that series are teaching kids stereotypes for lgbtq people, which don't mean anything.
@JoonieBestBoi actually the Ghostbusters movie was a complete diarrhoea of a movie it wasn’t anything like the classic. it was completely rewritten and it was full of girl power bullshit. which is what they wrap the entire movie around.
there are endless amounts of movies that have black characters they don’t need to take movies that have white characters and then just redo them black, that kind of bullshit is just as racist.
why is there a problem with there being movies that have few diverse characters, if you look at any black created movie, it’s all black. unless it’s some kind of race related storyline where the black daughters with the white male and the dad doesn’t like it because they’re openly racist against whites. those movies generally are all black and nobody complains that there’s not enough white people in the freaking thing.
The little mermaid is a Norse fairytale from the time of the Vikings, there were no black norse people then. Changing the character would be like saying the black panther should be a white guy or better yet, a white woman.
Spongebob was not “always gay”... the creator died and the social justice ass clowns got their hands on the control and made him gay. If he was suppose to be “gay” it would have been mentioned long ago.
