As Hobbes (the tiger) so eloquently put it: "The real fun of living wisely is that you get to be smug about it". Being prudently cautious is not the same as caving to panicky fear, and now we have another demonstration of that. FDA approval is long, slow, and has an eye-wateringly high failure rate (about 98%, after an average 5 year long testing process; you're not paying six bucks for a twelve cent pill, you're paying for every drug that DIDN'T make the cut), but the alternative is a world full of Thalidomide babies. And now we have six cases, out of how many tens or hundreds of thousands, and it all shuts down? A FUD overdose is no joke, it seems.
Science isn't a doctrine, it's a process. I don't know why that's so hard to understand. But after months of being lumped in with Jenny McCarthy for demanding proper testing, and a year of watching people burn the world down in a frenzy of fear, all I can do is laugh to keep from crying.
The odds of dying from over the counter pain relievers like aspirin or Ibuprofen is over 140 times higher than from the vaccine.
The odds of getting struck by lightning are about 7 times higher than dying from the J&J vaccine.
This is all assuming that any of those cases were caused by the vaccine, which has not been proven yet.

As for the "odds" its bs argument. We are talking about playing with people lives here.
I can see they may have fears of blood clots but so far it is working out to be one case in a million. BUT the numbers are not all in yet it may go higher. So far two have underlying problems such as morbidly overweight and heart problems. Time will tell all.
And that's it... What you just said! Time... I feel people should be given time to see the full risks versus positive results before being forced or coerced into getting the vaccine... Health and life is not something people should have to be forced to gamble with it should be their choice...
The other half of that is it can take up to five years to get test results. Now If we wait even a year to get test results how many millions would die. What you forget that you are free NOT TO GET THE VACCINE. That is your right as of now but Sleepy Joe Biden can try to change that in a heart beat with his EX ORDER. The Doctors say it is safe like the Govt they lie. Remember as of this date you DO NOT have to get the shot [s] your choice to wait a year or five it is your choice
For me too, I have bad luck in life. If the odds were a billion to one on winning the lottery, I'd not win but if the odds were a billion to won on getting some rare disorder, I'd get it.
Funny how we were raised to resist peer pressure and not experiment with drugs. Today we are being peer pressured into taking experimental drugs.
Okay, so let's see - over 500,000 dead in the US alone, 6 cases of blood clots reported out of ~6.8million who received the J&J vaccine. No, I can't see why people would rather not get vaccinated. Chances of having a blood clot from the J&J vaccine is what, maybe less than 1 in 1 million? Chances of getting COVID are much higher than experiencing severe adverse side effects from the vaccine. There are so many stupid, fear-mongering people in the United States. Please, educate yourself. I know countless people that have received the vaccine and they're all completely fine - just felt a little sick after getting their booster, as to be expected.
Please educate yourself... You not anyone can still safely say there isn't long term affects. Nor did I say people shouldn't get vaccinated. But don't call people stupid if they're hesitant to get a vaccine that was rushed and pushed out quickly. And how many years and how many people used J&J powder before it was linked to cancer? Many years and many cases of cancer later.
You're trying to explain that to an epidemiologist, honestly that's funny. I know more than the average person when it comes to diseases & disease control. I will gladly call people stupid for refusing a vaccine that has caused numbers of deaths and positive cases to decrease drastically. There are long-term effects when it comes to just about everything we put in our bodies.
Without knowing what those long term affects are, it's people's choice what they put in their body...
No kidding? The vaccine isn't mandatory, so clearly they have a say in what goes in their body, but that doesn't make it any less stupid. Fear-mongering doesn't help, either. Creating and spreading misinformation doesn't help anybody. If people want to return to normalcy, then it's important to do what is asked of them to ensure that happens. If they don't want to be vaccinated, then they should at the very least obey mask mandates and social distancing, which a fair amount of people do not - specifically those against receiving the vaccine. This pandemic won't improve until people do what is expected of them and that's a fact. Even though the COVID vaccine was developed far more quickly than many other vaccines, doesn't mean it isn't safe - it was tested in clinical trials. The FDA has rigorous standards for vaccine developers to meet and they are still monitoring it. As I said, there are long-term side effects to many things, but that doesn't stop people.

@Brainsbeforebeauty J&J powder has some research saying there is a possible link and other research saying there is no link at all. Just because J&J lost a court case doesn't mean it is fact (how many innocent people have been put away for crimes they didn't commit).
After using it 'for decades' it's hard to tell if it was genetics, processed meat, the sun, smoking, radiation, microwaves, pain killers, etc, etc that could've caused it.
I already could understand. I'm a bit nervous myself, but I'll get it to try to protect my high-risk mom.

Me too. Because that's not how I feel... I've always been vaccinated and got my kids vaccinated. I just feel these vaccines were rushed and not enough is known about possible long term affects. They can't even give a time fain to how long it's affective for. II would feel more safe getting the vaccine if there was more concrete proof and not so much speculation. I think until more is known to the safeness and affectiveness, it should be individual choice and not a mandate or forced into receiving

When dealing with biology, rare reactions may occur. How much do you know your body?
I can understand the concern, but how often do you ride in a vehicle, take a step in a public place or even breathe?
But, I also respect the need for the vaccine.
From what i read the amount of these cases is pretty rare and its only J&J's vaccine thats doing this. the others aren't such as Phizer. so while i can get come hesitation, the media is kinda making it seem a little worse than it really is. I'm still gonna get my vaccine and im still gonna wear the mask and practice social distancing.
There is no reason to take the jab, other than being illegally coerced.
There are many reasons not to become a test subject in an experimental gene-therapy, operating system (NOT a vaccine) trial.

My stance had always been that I don't distrust vaccines, they're a proven technology. But I very much distrust the people making the vaccines. And i distrust even more the government trying to mandate them.

Gene therapy probably does damage a lot like radiation in small doses. The damage isn't apparent at first but 10 years later when you get riddled with cancer your fucked
That's exactly why I'm not getting the vaccine. I don't trust it. I read an article today from some doctor that it really isn't a" vaccine". It is actually a small dose of the virus so your body can get used to it so the symptoms won't be as severe as if you didn't get the "vaccine". Your body doesn't fight it off, you just get accustomed to having it in your body. Thanks, but no thanks. I'll take my chances by not getting the shot.

No, but of the handful of cases that have actually been detected, most of them have been young women, so it looks like all other groups have an even lower chance of problems, doesn't it? (Conversely, if they make up 10% of those vaccinated, young women maybe have a 1 in 100,000 chance of problems, but that's still not the chance of dying, and still much, much lower than if they caught the disease. I'd happily take that vaccine, if it meant another dose of a different vaccine was available for a young woman.)

In other words, you're as likely to die getting to the vaccination centre as from the vaccination, even if all those cases were due to the vaccine!
@goaded data is still coming in. In terms of analysis and research, you cannot say one group is more susceptible than another this quick. You need to take into account people who got the Johnson and Johnson vaccine with this being the 1st dosage. This is where the problem was detected, between th first and second shot, which is why they paused it. Enough people got affected by it to cause a pause.
As of now, if what you say is true, young women are more prone per the data that has been received. You can't compare the results until they have been gathered and analyzed. At best this is the only supporting evidence so far, so pump the brakes a bit and let's see what else comes in before saying it's namely just women, because that is very unlikely.
Now your stats. I personally believe you are getting way too into your own head here. These are all modes of transportation. Yes, you do have a chance of dying whenever you travel, but it's very unlikely. No more likely than dying in your sleep. On the job. Dropping a deuce. You can die at any time. Try making that justification to people who are hesitant getting the virus because of underlying conditions that could be triggered by side effects from the vaccine or not trust it after one major company for it is now on a pause for distribution.

There has been less than 1 person per million who have had the vaccine and had the clot problem, and only one in six of them died. How sure are you that they wouldn't have had the same reaction to the virus itself?
Yeah I def can. Vaccine was rushed for sure. It's cause people aren't patient. I mean you could also look at it like that Pzier and Mederna don't cause clotting. Also you will always have some side effects with vaccines or pills. Although in this scenario I can see the fear as clotting can cause death.
I got the JJ vaccine as well. Hopefully I am not the 1/6 to get blood clot.

Think of it this way - if you go up to a couple and ask one of them "do you cheat on your partner", and they say "go fuck yourself", that doesn't automatically mean "yes, I do" because they didn't answer your question. It means - go fuck yourself.

Apart from anything else, 27% of over 85s die in a given year, that's about one in a hundred every fortnight. It's unsurprising that after months of vaccinating as many as possible, hundreds have died.

Not really. It's single figure numbers of clots against millions of jabs. Obviously it is awful if you're one of that tiny number, or your loved one is, but that would apply to 99% of all medicines, vaccinations and surgical interventions out there. Why should the reaction to fatal events from vaccines be so much greater than the reaction to fatal events from insulin, or aspirin, or general anaesthetics, or simply falling in the bath at home? The numbers speak for themselves.

Some birth control has more cases of causing blood clots than the J&J vaccine, yet women aren't hesitant to take birth control.
It's all political, not logical, every vaccine has risks. One just has to weigh the risk of the side effects with the risk of the disease being treated by the vaccine.
I have friends who won’t take birth control because of the side effects and all 4 of them have kids now lol, that part is besides the point. I’m just saying you might want to rework this comment to say “some women”.

In the past, I didn’t realize the presence of “all” or lack thereof made a difference in my statements either. Still, it’s a regularly reoccurring point that I’ve encountered though, and adopted in turn because of this. Like I once had a guy on here completely lose it because I said “men”, not “some men”, and that wasn’t the first time lol. So yeah, just a suggestion.
