China doesn't have the means to sustain itself in an invasion or project enough of its power to gain a decent foothold. Even with its numbers, it doesn't have enough troops to actually secure and hold the US even if force projection wasn't an issue. The US can handily outclass China in terms of force projection, but likewise doesn't have the numbers to actually secure the country. Another major issue is that China's economy is not at all strong and wouldn't be able to sustain wartime levels of production. The US manufacturing capabilities in this regard are far better suited for it, but would likely be crippled by ignorant and overbearing micromanagement.

Also while numbers do count for something, much of China's especially in regards to ships, planes, and tanks are far behind. As one example their tank that is considered most comparable to the Abrams (which M1A1 and newer variants make up the entirety of US armored component) only had 1,200 built, split evenly between two variants. The other 13K tanks are 1950s-1970s tech. It's one thing to brag about what something can do on paper, but it's another thing entirely to not only actually build them to that standard but also in adequate numbers to make a difference. Also neither country could actually bring the entirety of any of these numbers to bear on share notice because upwards of 33% of it is undergoing maintenance or refitting at any given time.

So all of this being said, realistically a straight up force-on-force engagement wouldn't happen on each others' soil because both know that they ultimately would waste everything they commit. China also has very little reason to get into a war with the US, because they have enough influence in the US government to basically force them to twiddle their thumbs until any action is moot or too late.

The US doesn't have a good track record of winning wars. If countries like Vietnam and koreas can best them it's logical to assume china could.

Sure.
It all boils down to where the war is and what the objective is.

Could China invade and conquer the U. S? No.

But it the U. S. was over attacking China it could be repelled. Any war would likely be over Taiwan and the China Sea... right in their backyard. The mainland could support their navel forces whereas our forces would be thousands of miles from their homeland and support.

Sure, the U. S. could lose.

It would help if China just left Taiwan the F**** alone and let them be instead of always lusting after conquering it.

China has no chance from an economic, aerial and maritime point of view, and in terms of land forces, it could challenge the US forces, but in vain compared to the American aviation.
