I am sad. Alex Jones is a pillar of the community.

I think Alex needs to go to jail in addition to going bankrupt.

Alex is lucky I am not a parent of one the murdered Sandy Hook children because he wouldn't even have the chance to go bankrupt. I would send him packing for his one-way trip to "Alternative Heaven."

But Mainstream media outlets have lied to justify war with Vietnam, Iraq and countless other places which have resulted in the deaths of millions. They're still around and thriving. Alex Jones seems like a very low priority if the dangers of misinformation and fake news really concern you.

He's claiming chapter 11 bankruptcy isn't bankruptcy. Which just means he's lying again. Which isn't a surprise to anyone sane. Chapter 11 is literally: "Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code"

@goaded Chapter 11 isn't really a "bankruptcy" bankruptcy though. It's a restructuring of debts. It's more like refinancing your mortgage than declaring bankruptcy.

No, it's really bankruptcy. "Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code (Title 11 of the United States Code) permits reorganization under the bankruptcy laws of the United States." Which laws, again? "bankruptcy laws". You do not file for Chapter 11 unless you cannot pay your debts, and that's bankruptcy.

@goaded No... read the stuff you just sent me. Chapter 11 doesn't involve forfeiture of assets. Traditionally, declaring bankruptcy means that assets are being taken in lieu of paying your debts. That's not what's happening to Jones. Saying that Jones is bankrupt simply isn't an accurate statement.

I did read it. And also the definition of bankruptcy. You don't file for bankruptcy protection if you aren't bankrupt (or claiming to be), you just pay your debts.

@goaded I get where you're going with this, but the entire purpose of Chapter 11 is to restructure the debt in a more sustainable fashion. That's fundamentally different from not being able to pay it.

That's why I said it sounds more like Alex is just restructuring his company's debt. Because he's still operating his business.

It's literally called "Chapter 11 bankruptcy", you quoted it yourself. Also, you don't file for it if you can pay your debts. If he could pay his debts, he could simply pay, and re-organise his business to his heart's content, without the courts being involved.

You don't go to court for help keeping your business going if you could do it any other way.

@goaded Chapter 11 is being used here preemptively. He's using bankruptcy code as a legal defense to avoid paying so much in defamation damages.

He doesn't have existing debts that he can't pay. He's restructuring his business to avoid insolvency.
