The original owners sold the chain to Private Equity about 15 or 20 years ago if I remember right, and Private Equity is pretty much always going to be a nightmare. PE firms don't care about running restaurants, they care about structuring finance. The standard play is to take out big loans in the name of the company, then award most of that money to the owners as a dividend, and then hope the business can repay the loan. Often it can't, especially when PE is running the business poorly, as is usually the case.
Even worse, the PE firms got Woke, and started hiring BBWs, trans-women, and even dudes, which drove off a lot of customers. Then they changed the uniforms to make them even more skimpy, which most of the staff was not happy about. You essentially had people with zero restaurant or entertainment experience trying to run the company, and they made a long series of bad decisions, resulting in the closure of many locations. Of course COVID didn't help, but COVID wasn't as big a problem as the other ones I mentioned. It was all very poor management.
Apparently, the original owners are trying to work out a deal to buy the company back from PE, but that depends on whether they can make a decent deal.

the PE guys probably have it loaded up with debt and the bankruptcy is their ploy to walk away from their debt obligations. I wouldn’t be surprised if they dividended some of that cash from the debt at closing of the deal to their investors (limited partners) and the general partners ( the 2 PE firms).

Companies close locations before a bankruptcy to make themselves more attractive to potential buyers. In this case I think Hooters is just going to end up going out of business altogether.
They say they want to reorganize and come out of the bankruptcy but I just don't think there's the demand for it the way there once was, especially now that they allow "trans" waitresses, which the guys who go there do not want.
If they want to come back with young, friendly, pretty girls in tight little outfits with pantyhose and white sneakers the way they used to do it, they might have a chance. But these days I don't know if young guys would go there the way they did in the past.
Here's the question. Does the USA need a mediocre chain restaurant whose business model is based more on selling a peek at a young girl's cleavage and butt cheeks than it is on their poor corporate menu of foods that will kill you? I think Hooter's lasted way longer than it should have and it needs to die. Those young guys and old men are now sitting at home on only fans and ordering Door Dash. More skin and same sort of deadly fast food.
Its a cheap place to look at girls and eat but with the hookup culture these kind of places are just boring and not needed.. Guys can get their sexual needs met with only fans girls and sluts willing to do free hookups, so why pay money to eat at a place where girls are mostly dressed and are just a tease?

I had a brief working stint in North America and was taken to one. I didn't find it as exciting as my hosts seemed to. For a start I prefer B cups.
Apart from that I think this sort of establishment has a lifespan. Not that comely girls are ever going out of fashion. Compare gentlemen clubs with the pub strip.
Girls are getting naked to music in both places. That is always good. The diff was you got individual attention at the gentleman's club where as at the pub strip you only get that when the girl brings the beer jug round for you to put a tip in.
Everything has it's season. Everything gets a bit ho-hum. It is probably the Coolidge effect named after your President Coolidge.
I used to go there somewhat years ago along with twin peaks and tilted kilt a couple of times. There was a time when the girls were gorgeous and the chicken wings were good when they were actually cooked. But a few years went by at the time I first tried twin peaks and the girls by that time were all tattooed up with rings in their lips nose and everywhere else un feminine by that time I liked twin peaks chicken fried steak.
All that was 7 years ago at the time all the male bashing and gender wars were taking off my last time was on my birthday and I actually got to sit at the girl's table I thought was so gorgeous so cute and she was at first until I saw the way she treated my nephew being rude to him and snapping at him he was then right around 7 years old.
I then considered the age factor along with all the other changes and I never went back I never will and that goes for all of them there is no reason to go back anymore there is no point in it.
Nostalgia is not what it used to be.
I have never dined at a Hooters, but it always puzzled me that if their entire business model is built around breasts, why are the waitresses wearing tops? I mean they would lose the family traffic, but how many people are taking kids to Hooters anyway?

Hooters is betwixt and between. It's either a porn show, so embrace that, or it's a family restaurant, so embrace that. It cannot be both.
Filing for bankruptcy doesn't necessarily mean going out of business.
The corporation might be financially restructuring and bankruptcy is a strategy they opted for to try to stay afloat.
Meanwhile, I once worked at a Hooters restaurant when I was so much younger.
Those were also fun times.

At the branch where I once worked, there was a sign posted on several walls stating that "Hooters employees are discouraged, but not prohibited, from pursuing intimate relationships with Hooter patrons."
To my knowledge none of us cavorted with any customer at as a sign of respect to our beloved branch manager.
In fact, Hooters employees were also strongly discouraged from dating each other.

Most the Hooters have already closed down around me , so I haven’t been to one in a long time , I did hear they were going to make them more family friendly and the girls’ will not be wearing revealing outfits anymore , so hopefully they get out of the hole. I do have a twin Peaks by me and the girls’ there wear more revelations clothes then Hooters and they are doing fine lol

I've only ever been to them, twice. Once when i was really young, in atlantic city, and once when I went to toledo, a couple hours away, to meet kelly kelly at a mall, and then went to hooters after. We don't have one here in cle. If we did, Ida gone more often. This is proof, that they needed more locations. Filing for a chapter 11
They are in receivership. More likely than not they will restructure their debt, cut 30 to 50% of their venues and move on. They still need a sustainable business model, though.

Hooters aren’t what they used to be & although I like Hooters the last time I ate there I complained to the general manager & suggested that they change the name of the restaurant to Flat Chesters.

There is a Hooters about 50 miles away. I drive by it on my way to my summer house. I have never been there but the parking lot is always empty. I always thought they were doing something shady.
For the 90's Chicago Bulls championship games that I didn't see live I saw a lot of them at Hooters. So in that respect t it does hold some memories. They had awesome Buffalo chicken sandwiches.
They said that they are going to tone down the breastraunt stuff because it doesn't work. Though I have been to several recently that are regularly busy. I think that Hooter's problem was that they just didn't try to be competitive in that market space. The last time I was at Hooters the food was good, but the service was lack luster, like a Denny's at 3 am. You really can't have that kind of service at any restaurant during the dinner hours and expect to stay open.
Let's be real. The food was terrible at Hooters. The wings were ok, not great and everything else was really low quality food. All joking aside the people that worked locally to me were nice, and I feel bad for employees that lose their jobs, but the food needed to be better. In the past ten years I had been to one 3 times and the food was awful worse each time.
Maybe it’s an advertisement ploy, the food is not that great from what I understand, and if you really got served by topless waitresses then it might make more money
