Amazon is laying off 10,000 employees according to posts by the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. Thoughts?

We are finally seeing the beginning effects of a major recession like we knew we were going to see. I would argue that it might even become worse than the great depression by far. The so-called pandemic was nothing more than a global scam to scare people into not working. I believe they meant to crash the economy in order to create a global currency, ESG, and have the great reset that they have been wanting for a long time. All of it is an effort to try to control and even eliminate many within the population over time. With supply shortages, and really bad policy not allowing for oil exploration, diesel fuel becoming short supply, and major inflation, we are still in the beginning phases and it will look sweet like a walk in the park compared to what is coming soon. We are talking food shortages, the inability to deliver goods and services, low demand for goods and services, and smaller companies all over the place closing the doors forever. This holiday will probably prove really bad and dismal for sales. Combine all of that, and companies even as big as Amazon will not be able to pay people.

If even Amazon is engaging in mass layoffs just weeks before Black Friday, then either economic conditions are even worse than I thought, or they're planning on implementing a new automation scheme at the stupidest possible time.

I'd heard their billion-dollar Lord of the Rings show ended up kind of lousy, but even a total loss in that department wouldn't shake the company THAT badly, and- come to think of it, does it say WHERE the layoffs are coming from? There's more to Amazon than just shipping. For that matter, is AliBaba being similarly affected?

Companies make adjustments due to market forces. The economy is the worst it's been in over 40 years. You know that when you take the job. How are they supposed to pay 10,000 people who aren't making them money?

There is an element that's odd, true, but based on the articles, some of it makes sense. The other day they said there was going to be a hiring freeze -- that plus the layoffs makes sense that they'd reduce the HR staff. I've read that the Alexa group has run at a loss for years, so that reduction makes sense too. The Retail layoffs are interesting but perhaps that's like office staff and not people who deal with actual stuff going from warehouses to us.
