I don't know if he really wants to bring back firing squads or not. Everything he says gets twisted around and taken out of context. Plus, the vast majority of death sentences are by the states, so the US pres has no say in the matter.

I'm against capital punishment, but if they are going to do it I'm not against firing squads. Why is it so damn difficult to kill someone? Capital punishment shouldn't exist. Not because they're aren't crimes that may merit it as a punishment, but because we can never know with absolute certainty that someone is guilty. Even the best evidence, DNA, is only as good and accurate as the lab processing it and the people handling it. Dozens of inmates on death row have been set free due to discoveries of fraudulent lab reports about their DNA being at a crime scene.

It's completely immoral and abhorrent to execute someone when you cannot be absolutely certain of their guilt and it provides no justice to the victim (s). Innocent in prison is bad enough but at least there's an opportunity to correct the injustice instead of compounding it by infinity.

This is Trump just trying to use the media again by making bombastic claims to get attention for his upcoming attempt for a 2nd term - he suffers from NPD. It doesn't mean he won't do it if he wins, but he employs the same tactics in his business as a way to gain leverage over a party. Personally, I'm against having firing squads because it will seem too... Nazi or Soviet like.

We want to lead not just our country, but allied nations in the direction that respects the rule of law as best as we can even though it doesn't always work out that way. How can we expect to show a better way when we're behaving just like our enemies that perform this very behavior in China, NK, Russia, Iran, etc?

I'm not saying we shouldn't get our hands dirty, but there's a time and place for any extremes and now is NOT the time to do it as the world is entering it's most vulnerable point since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. We need a leader that inspires confidence (Trump does this, Biden does not (Biden is a team player, not a leader)), but also knows how to handle the situation in a productive way (Trump does not do this, Biden does for the most part). He prefers the iron fisted method for pretty much everything and we don't need someone like him at this time.

I have my disagreements with all Presidents, but I can tell you that it would be a disaster for foreign policy if Trump comes back because we need allies to win this new Cold War and the iron fisted approach will not work anymore primarily because they have options (such as China if they dislike the US a lot, similar to what happen with the strategic imbecility of the EU - China investment deal). Although there is a global alliance forming against China and his foreign policy handling China was done for the most part well, he treated our EU allies poorly (despite my own dislike for EU leaders, except for the UK).

In short, Trump is like using a gun - you only use it when you need to, but such an extreme measure should be used very cautiously.

1. The death penalty, due to murrrica's judicial system that--for better & worse--involves multiple round of appeals (particularly when death by execution is concerned)--is literally more expensive than just locking someone away in one of murrrica's horrific prison systems, many of which are now FOR PROFIT :)

2. The awesome murrrican judical system I already started to describe above is guaranteed to get some verdicts wrong that result in the wrong person literally being put to death.
