They delayed access to fill reservoirs from streams for firefighters by 5 hours while they discussed equiable use of the water for the farmers. By the time they agreed, the people at the reservoirs had already been forced to flee the fires.

My sympathies only go so far as Hawaii is a deep blue state that votes for this craziness. Now they have to accept what comes with it just like San Fransisco, LA, Seattle, Portland, NYC, Chicago and more. Make your bed and lie in it.

I heard the recording of the guy who said the Maui water use was restricted during the emergency because of “equity”.

On one end I know native Hawaiians have their own culture that are heavily influenced by spiritual beliefs. Whether they do or don’t make sense I try to respect that. So as twisted as it is I would like to believe that’s what happened.

But the word “equity”. I immediately hate and distrust anyone who uses the f*cking word “equity” nowadays. Hate that word. Hate it. The families of the fire victims should find this guy, throw him into a wildfire and then say “oh we can’t use the water because of equity” considering what he did.

Probably won’t be difficult considering Maui is not a very big island. This guy isn’t going to be popular in the future.

They transferred the guy who held it up. He is no longer involved in the decision making but its too late. I think they will cover for him and just hide him away although his name is known.

I’ve visited Hawaii several times, have some old friends who are Hawaiian and I was in Maui just 4 months ago.

I know for a fact it’s a close knit community. It’s small and there is nowhere to hide out there.

If he’s smart he will get his selfish ass off the island as soon as possible. Hawaiians are not afraid to get rough if you cross them. Especially if you did something to hurt their family. They hold a grudge against this moron and rightfully so considering what he did.

Wildfires in Canada, USA... This is the first year in my life i hear about this a lot. Is this really a nature phenomena, or is it done on purpose? Wildfires are natural. But now two things are different. 1) We have a lot of homes in the woods now and areas that could be affected by a wildfire. 2) Power equipment is overheated due to high demand and a lack of building out more electrical infrastructure as people don’t want it in their backyard. This then caused 40% of the fires as estimated by power companies.

Oh, 3) some areas do controlled burns to get rid of the fuel, dead trees and limbs. Many areas won’t do that.

Lighting is a key starter of wildfires. Yes so are deliberately set as well. California has been having trouble with wildfires for a while now and the overheating of electrical equipment is a huge problem.
