Very disturbing. Apparently authorities refused to release any details of the case and the press withheld the man's identity from the public and the man was able to fly home to China without having justice done upon him. Some say this is common in China where they take revenge on soceity. More such attacks are said to be expected.
It did cause quite a storm here. No violence could be more egregious than this.
What appears to be the case is that the Chinese national was angry that his student visa was not renewed. Student visa's are often rorted to allow foreign nationals to work in Australia and the studies are an illusion.
After throwing a thermos flask of scalding water on the baby, he then drove about a 1000 km or approx 12 hours to board a flight out of Australia to China. Pretty well calculated and I think speaks to intent of committing a crime and depart before being apprehended.
There is an international arrest warrant for him but little chance of PRC surrendering him for a life imprisonment charge. Police are claiming - unconvincingly - releasing his name will hamper the investigation despite this being unusual.
I think the best explanation of this is that there is a Left wing state gov't in Queensland (Labor for UK people, but US people think Democrat). They are facing election on 26th October so god knows what their warped thinking is. Law and order is a major issue in the election campaign.

Australia is the kidnap capital of the world, so it's probably jilted parents paying to have this done to kids they cannot have. Or it's just spurious correlation and conspiracy to justify Sinophobia, as China has really screwed the Australian economy over of late.

You know they said the same about grooming gangs in England.

Yeah but he was 5 not a grown up. This guy purposely maimed a child because his visa wasn't renewed

The video that is mentioned in the article explains it. People in China don't have a social safety net or mental health support or anything and in east asia the expectations of society are very high and it's very restrictive so when a person can't manage to handle all these expectations and requirements to live a decent life they can become bitter and lash out against society itself and hurting children is the most impactful way to damage a society. A chinese man also attacked 3 boys in Zürich where I live with a knife but thankfully all 3 survived I'm very grateful for that.

1 yterrible, never heard of.
Makes some sense in twisted human rational...
a. People do to others what they see or what was done to them.
b. Since they feel powerless, they take out their grief on the powerless.
That makes sense... in twisted human rational...
The real answer is the heart and soul is corrupt... that should be obvious. This why the world needs Christ salvation, for the wickedness that started keeps getting passed around. Chinese have been oppressed emotionally for a long time.
This could be a scheme of govt as well to change public opinion.

1 ysounds like he found out his mistress' baby wasn't his?
you don't do that to a baby no matter what the circumstances are! the east Asians aren't as kind as the rehabilitated British criminals. i hope they find this guy and and drown him in hot coffee

No way with current Chinese aggression. I'd say it was well thought out. Do it then drive to another states airport airport and get on the plane.
Not easy to identify him either as it was done in a park. There seems to be some CCTV of him outside of the park. The mother could probably identify as a Chinese man but the police would still need to facial match. Whether the Queensland police would have immediate access to passport photos from the Feds I don't know.
I don't know if state police can check on international flight ticket bookings. That seems more Federal Police. Queensland Police would have needed to called NSW Police to apprehend him at Sydney airport..
All up they had less than 24 hours to identify a random Chinese man and apprehend him.
It wouldn't surprise me - 1 y
@RavVid well she knows who he is, but if he's willing to do that to a baby then who knows what he'd do to her? still, figuring out who it is might not help at all. she should have kept her mouth shut. she probably even knew what kind of person he is. i hope that baby fully recovers and that chink gets karma swiftly!

The baby has life long injuries unfortunately. It doesn't seem there was any association between the Chinese man an the mother. The baby looks straight anglo. I assume the husband is the father.
We don't know Chinese man's name. I think this is due to the Left wing state gov't censoring the story for the election on the 26th this month. As it stands they are deservedly being kicked out. There is no justification for the suppression. - 1 y

Well I can't swear to newspaper's truth but it just seems to be some random mom with a baby in a park and the Chinese man unknown to the parents. They wouldn't be demanding his name if they knew him.
I don't think there was a love triangle here. An Anglo husband would query a Chinese baby I would think if there had been. - 1 y

I heard he got rejected for a visa

Maybe I am missing your point. If there had been a sexual liaison between the mother and Chinaman then sexual jealousy could have been the cause of what he did. Random violence is often not so random and there is a back story.
If no sexual liaison then he should not have been upset by a woman taking her baby to a park.
His work mates described him as having 'brain issues' which I guess is mental issues in Chinglish. - 1 y

People with more legal knowledge than me are saying that it was unusual for police not to give the name of the suspect and it would be more likely only done if the family might suffer reprisals. But the Chinaman doesn't have family in Australia.
I really think the current Police Minister has given instructions to the Police Commissioner to avoid a controversy so close to an election. We'll find out sometime after the 26th October when a new gov't is sworn in. - 1 y

I am not an elector in Queensland. so I don't get to vote in this election :). Our elections have very high integrity and it is difficult to game. A lot of this comes from it being compulsory to get your name crossed off the electoral roll at each election. You don't have to actually cast a ballot but you do need to be recorded as doing so. It is a civic duty.
That eliminates a lot of fraudulent practices. You can't stuff the ballot box since it will end up with more votes than electors. If there are, then a by-election will be ordered.
About the only way there is to interfere, is undue influence over an elderly person needing assistance to vote. A son or daughter could harvest their vote by telling them the left wing candidate is the conservative candidate and induce them to mark the ballot incorrectly to their wishes.
We run a very tight electoral ship. Corrupt politicians is the failure point. - 1 y

There is some good stuff to see in Queensland. My favourite place is Noosa there. It is far enough north to get the equatorial current and you can go swimming at 2-3 am and it feels like bath water. But not so warm as to have sea snakes, portugese man o war jelly fish or crocodiles.
Queensland is Texas x 2.5 or UK x 7. Western Australia is bigger than california, idaho, nevada, utah, arizona, montana, wyoming, colorado and new mexico combined. So there is a lot of travelling once you get there is the key point.
Part of WA is the remnants of the first super continent Vaalbara which formed 3.6 billion years ago and it has the oldest extant lifeform of about the same vintage. That knocks me out. There are all these things to see but they are so far apart. to get too. Campervan and retirement I guess. - 1 y
@RavVid i personally love the ruggedness that's pictured from the American cinema of the outback. i would expect more of a response from the people if this happened. that leads me to believe this was a discreet encounter or she was targeted.
i will add you. i'd like to learn more about your country in your posts - 1 y
Thank you.. Australia does do rugged pretty well. But a lot of it s highly urban. In the link are pictures of the park where it happened.
At least in part of it s a place to take children. That emphasizes how planned this was. it was well thought out. He took a thermos flask of hot liquid to a place he could expect to find children at.

Well she has and the father of course. The media is too circumspect and some of it is pro China. There should be demands for the man to be returned for investigation but our current Left wing Prime Minister hid that a PLA naval vessel attacked on of ours in the sea of Japan whilst he was back slapping Xi. So I doubt he has any back bone for this.
The Queensland gov't lost power over the weekend as expected so I hope the incoming gov't is more forth coming. - 1 y

Not since WW2 :). Mostly we have given assistance to allies; primarily the US. The US and UK would be primary allies but a number would be well disposed to us and helped when China sought to blackmail us.
Extradition of a citizen of another country is difficult. Particularly if you need to question the person to build a case. It is hard enough to get citizens out of China who face trumped up charges. - 1 y
Oh my, that's no good , wtf is wrong with people 👀😬😳

Anonymous(30-35)1 yThe article answered that question for you. Racism. He doesn't like white people. People conduct racist attacks all the time, all over the world. Going after children is unfortunately common because it inflicts the most damage.

Anonymous(30-35)1 ygiven that millions of babies are electively aborted every year for "inconvenience" without an ounce of sympathy, the lack of outrage on this man harming an infant isn't surprising at all. China in particular is notorious for abortions

While visiting Singapore, a Malaysian Muslim urinated on a widely visible street corner intentionally to protest against being prohibited from smoking in public which is/was a long-standing law in Singapore that's posted publicly in Changi Airport for awareness upon entering the country. During his arrest, he claimed he can no longer help himself from lighting up.
