What is going on in Sweden with gun crime, stabbings bombings gang rape going through the roof?

Apparently it's the gun and rape capital of Europe, and more dangerous than cities in Iraq. I was there on a family holiday a few years ago and we warned by local swedes that the women and girls in our family shouldn't venture out alone outside the hotel and that there were certain no go areas that White Christians could no be in.

Ah, its complete bullshit. To put it bluntly, Sweden was used as an example of a good country for a very long time to criticize the capitalist model that USA has been following. Because Sweden has been doing pretty well for itself the opposition has instead switched tactics to smear the reputation of Sweden so that people no longer associate it with good things and therefore can't be used to undermine their political positions anymore.

Lets start with rape. This is a crime that is famous for almost never being reported to the police, and therefore very few rapes are actually recorded. In USA only around 30% of actual rapes are reported to the police which means that if you just made sure all rapes were reported you would "increase" the amount of rape in the country by more than 3 times.

Furthermore "Rape" is a legal term that is defined by the nations laws which means what qualifies as rape in one country does not count in another. For example, in USA rape used to be defined as being penetrated against your will, which means that if a woman raped a man then that would not legally qualify as rape. This has changed but it serves as a good example. Why this is especially important in Sweden is because Sweden recently changed its legal definition of rape to include more things as a means of increasing criminal sentencing without having to actually rewrite the law. Furthermore, in Sweden every instance of unwanted sex is counted as a separate rape. If a husband rapes their wife each day for a year then that is counted as 365 separate instances of rape where as in other countries it might just count as 1.

While I dont have the studies at hand anymore, last time I checked this (was a year or so ago now) the actual real rate of rapes in Sweden was close to the European average when accounting for unreported cases and the different definitions of rape.

As for guns, while yes there are a fair amount of guns in Sweden because it has a tradition of hunting, its really not a big issue. There has been an increase of gang to gang violence but that has virtually no real impact on the average person.

As a rule of thumb Sweden is a very safe country and you dont have to worry about visiting it unless you actually intentionally put yourself in danger deliberately.

There is a similar propaganda campaign going on inside Sweden from the far right because they benefit from their voters being scared and blaming minorities such as immigrants. I am sure you have seen parallels in the UK, it is the most common way that politicians tries to manipulate you into voting against your own interests.

Yeah, while that is certainly a unique flavor of violence it is still gang violence and it is replacing a lot of more traditional violence. As such while it is more dramatic it does not actually really increase the numbers of murders and such in Sweden compared to other countries. For example, it makes very little difference if the pizza delivery man hands you a grenade, shoots you with a gun or just stabs you to death. You still die.

First I've heard. There was a murder about 200m from my home about 4 years ago where a gang member was shot at a bus stop and another dude was killed by someone in a forest about 6km away and there has been an explosive device thrown into a restaurant about 5km away in the past 4 years. I live in one of the most non white parts of Sweden fyi called Valsta with a mostly non indigenous (say not white if that's the purpose of your loaded question) and as the only blonde haired blue eyed person in the neighbourhood I stand out but I'M AN IMMIGRANT and most of these people aren't because they were born here.

The rape stats American right wing nuts keep misusing are collated differently (a single rape in the US could count up 5, 6 or even 10 separate RAPE charges because of the registering of EACH EVENT being recorded here but the US right wing don't have a fuking clue about how to fathom that out). Yes the original is a massive exaggeration. Sweden has no more problems with crime than any other, sexual violation crimes are also taken very seriously and victims readily report them whatever their gender.

The rape stats show no difference between Sweden's proportion of victims (especially since it's MORE likely there for women to make the effort to report instances instead of avoiding reporting in some countries where fuk all is done about it often because "it will ruin his life" excuses from officials) is similar to those in similar countries. THAT is because of the way rape is recorded. A single incident of rape by one person on another COULD result in half a dozen charges because each incident reported counts as a separate incident. Like if a NO is said and something further was done NEW INCIDENT, then again a further act NEW INCIDENT.
So the NUMBERS of cases does not mean MORE victims but the right wing don't give the whole truth because they don't like people of different skin colour they try to blame for the "numbers" being higher.
Maybe stop children being killed because of a national fetish for firearms and misinterpretation of a statute that is meant to defend against tyrants and not other citizens.

I don't know I was there a long time ago and everything was fine. But I looked it up and there were 4.5 times more sexual crimes in Sweden than in Switzerland and we have similar populations. Back in 2013 it was 3.5 times more. So it was already bad back then. I don't know the causes they have to figure it out themselves. I looked it up and all the northern countries (Finland, Sweden, England and Norway to a lesser extent) seem to have higher amount of rape.

There could also be an issue with reporting in some countries though I don't know.
