Laura is a beatiful young lady that teaches 5th grade in New Jersey. In 2019 she gave birth to a baby girl. Allegations suggest the father is a young man she had guardianship of.

The young man, an adult, said he is the father and very much in love with Laura. That he initiated everything and Laura should not be punished in any way.

Because they share parentage of this, now 5 year old girl, he hopes they can return to normal life, with Laura, and their family. Placing Laura in jail would damage their kindergarten-age daughter.

Mary Schmitz met Steve Letourneau while attending Arizona State University; they had a child out of wedlock and married out of social pressure. They had three more children together over the years. Their marriage was unhappy. After achieving a teaching degree in 1989, Mary Letourneau started working at an elementary school in Burien, Washington. In September 1991, she first met Vili Fualaau, a second-grade pupil. Letourneau admired Fualaau's artistic abilities and kept in touch while not being his teacher. Letourneau and Fualaau met again in the fall of 1995, in sixth grade class. In June 1996, Letourneau, aged 34, engaged in statutory rape with Fualaau, aged 12.[2][3] In September, she found out she was pregnant with Fualaau's child.

Letourneau was arrested in March 1997, after a relative of her husband contacted the police. While awaiting sentencing, she gave birth to Fualaau's daughter. With the state seeking a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence, she reached a plea bargain calling for six months in jail with three months suspended and no contact with Fualaau for life, among other terms. Shortly after Letourneau had completed three months in jail, the police caught her in a car with Fualaau. A judge revoked her plea agreement and reinstated the prison sentence for the maximum allowed by law of seven-and-a-half years.[4] Eight months after returning to prison, she gave birth to Fualaau's second child, another daughter.[5]

Letourneau was imprisoned from 1998 to 2004, spending half a year in solitary confinement for her communication attempts with Fualaau. After her release, she and Fualaau successfully petitioned to the court to have their no-contact order lifted. Mary Letourneau and Vili Fualaau were married in May 2005. The marriage lasted 14 years, until their separation in 2019.[6][7][8] Letourneau died in 2020, aged 58, from colon cancer, leaving much of her estate to Fualaau.

If he was underage when they started their sexual relationship then that is grooming and rape and she should be put in jail. She shouldn't get any special privileges just because she had a child with a child or because she's a woman. She needs to serve her time and watch her daughter grow while behind bars.

She's still an adult and could have rejected the advances. She is culpable for her actions and should be punished for them. The mother hurt a child when she raped him whether he asked for it or not.

I feel bad for the little girl but if we let the mother off, we set a horrible precedent that we can just sleep with underage kids and if the girl gets pregnant we have to let the perpetrator off.

Feel like I saw her story on the Law & Crime channel, but then there are a lot of stories like hers on there. Was the young man an adult when they had sex? If so then there isn't much I can really say I guess. If he wasn't, then she still has to be locked up regardless of the kid. She broke the law and has to pay.

He may have initiated it but she didn't have to allow herself to be persuaded. The boy is acting on his hormonal instincts so he doesn't understand much more than that. She has to get locked up, and his parents will have to work out the situation with the baby.

IF that teacher had sex with a legal minor, she engaged in statutory rape. A child, a pubescent child, might want to have sex with someone they admire and are attracted to. But there are laws against this for good reason. Children are not mature enough to make rational choices about sex. Hell, many ADULTs aren't.

A supposed rational adult KNOWS THIS. But this woman ignored these legalities because, let's face it, something is seriously mentally wrong with her. I'm not sure she should be parenting anybody.

I'm not saying put this woman away for life, but she needs to face some jail time for using this child and should be required to have long-term mental healthcare to remain out of jail.

In that other case mentioned, that couple married, however when he was a mature man, he divorced her. Boys and men lag in sexual/mental maturity.

It's unfortunate this woman behaved in this manner. But she doesn't get a pass because she had a child with and took advantage of this boy.

We have to have teachers that we trust teaching our children. This woman was not one of them.
