Like know your market. You aren't going to sell jeans to women if you are using obese models, especially not white women who are problem the most likely to wear denim.

Im white myself though not blonde (blue eyed redhead) but id like to imagine that in the future a commercial featuring a daughter of mine would be possible and that any children that I have won't face racial discrimination or prejudice. Especially not with all the prejudice my mother & father grew uk with and my grandparents.

Yes, there is racism towards white people among woke people, but this fucking ad was doing Nazi dog whistles, and it is entirely unsurprising that it was controversial, especially considering that a fascist white nationalist is currently trying to dismantle Western democracy.

The backlash is dumb and the defense is dumb.

It is just an advertisement done by American Eagle, meant to get people to consume product. It isn’t sending a message other than “buy me”.

Last time I checked no one cared about American Eagle until the media responded then everyone had to take a side. I personally don’t buy American Eagle attire , if you buy from there whether for a family member or yourself good on you.

It's because they intentionally and wrongly imputed the play on words between 'jeans' and 'genes' to be racist. It was just an ad wizard being clever, as American Eagle always has been.

Maybe racism, I don't know about body shaming.. The real issue was the "great Jeans" line.. Some Twitterites decided to read too much into it.. But also the Conservatives/Right wing don't seem much better.. They're responding by over praising Sydney, and making it out to seem like "White" is right.. You can just as well appreciate a woman your body type from any group.. She doesn't have to be "White".. I can the counter reaction from the Lefts hatred of "White" people, but the Rights reaction seems to be getting worse..

Saying you have good genes doesn't mean you're a white supremacist.

Also, different body types is fine, but perhaps the media shouldn't promote unhealthiness ie people significantly overweight.

Some people just like to hate everything that does not positively reinforce them. It reminds me of the 50-year-old critics of A Wrinkle in Time, as if the movie were made for them. These jeans are not made for 5'4 350 lb. women.

It is especially funny in this case, because American Eagle has gotten millions in free advertising and the only people upset would not buy from them anyway, except for the ones buying them to burn them, which just makes money for the company.
