That is the basic strategy of asymmetric warfare. Afghanistan. Vietnam. You don't need to line up on a battlefield with a larger, wealthier, better equipped foe and vanquish them. You can simply make it so expensive and make it last so long they simply lose the will to "win". They eventually just go away.

People who go the asymmetric route almost always find allies who are the enemies of their attackers willing to supply them with weapons to drain the resources of that common enemy. It's a low cost way to avoid direct confrontation while still damaging an enemy. That's exactly what's been going on between NATO / Ukraine / and Russia for almost 3+ years now.

Well hold on there. As much as the Israelis have proven to be bloodthirsty bastards, Iran has been bankrolling and supplying terrorist groups in Lebanon, Iraq, Gaza, and Yemen for 45 years. Shias hate Sunnis and Sunnis hate Shias, and they all hate Israelis. In their spare time they all hate the Kurds. The Saudis would be fine with seeing Iran wiped off the map. But the Saudis are themselves world class assholes.

The whole area is a shit show of constant manipulation by industrialized European nations and the USA for the last 100+ years. It's unclear who to blame at this point after so much killing over such a long time and three closely related bloodthirsty religions going at each other in the name of "God".
