Should Tanner Horner get the death penalty?

If you haven't been following it, the tragic, troubling story of little Athena Strand has been in the news of late. She was killed by Horner in 2022 when he was a FedEx driver who delivered toys to her house, she came up to the back of his open truck and he pulled her in and then drove off. She asked him if he was a kidnapper but he was telling her to shut up. I won't say the rest here but you can get the details in this video.

Horner has tried to hide behind autism for what he did, but the prosecutors aren't buying it. And from the details of what happened in that truck I don't see any autistic inclinations whatsoever. This is a sickening case where the electric chair should be brought back specially for this guy.

A nation that must resort to using the death penalty to punish his/her criminals is not better than the criminal him/-herself. It only shows that the justice system is incapable of coping with its citizens and that it choses the easy method to get rid of a criminal.

The USA are at the very same level in terms of justice as would be Saudi Arabia or China, just to mention 2 failed justice systems.

No, that person should not be sentenced to death and neither to a jail sentence of 200 years since nobody in the modern world can live that long. The US justice system is a total failure.

Just put him away for the rest of his life. He must die in prison for his unspeakable act but not because it is cheaper for the state to have him murdered but because that criminal must have enough time to think that his life as a free citizen is over and out.

You don't get it. USA has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world. It takes our tax dollars to keep these criminals fed and having room and board. People take crime for granted exactly for this reason. If we would execute killers more promptly and frequently, I think our crime rates would probably drop.

I think the problem lies much deeper than that. The question is why is your criminal rate so high and start packing the problem at the source.

It is actually Venezuela and some other Latin countries with the highest crime in the world, but the U. S. has the most prisoners because of our higher population and because we won't execute these damn crime rats. We either let people off easy or lock them away for 25 years to life, eating up our tax dollars.

I'm against the death penalty but such cases make me say yes he deserves it!

I just can't resist looking at this innocent child face, like why?

If he was able to kill her than he's a threat on every person in the world, life in prison or death penalty, even though sadly the little girl is gone forever ☹

When I first saw all the details about what he did it made me sick. This was a child for God's sake, not a prostitute. He deserves the death penalty without question.

He should be executed but not after a few decades of forced slave labor. Squeeze all you can out of him to repay society. Then when he’s too old then execute him the cheapest way possible. Make sure taxpayers don’t pay a penny given what this oxygen wasting piece of sh*t did.

I’m all for capital punishment. But it seems like we are letting people escape their well deserved misery too fast.

Instead make him WANT to be put out of his misery. Make him work his ass off doing hard labor. Feed him just enough to keep him alive and functional.

But on a much deeper spiritual side there are heinous serial killers who have claimed to come know Jesus in their final hours (including Ted Bundy).

Now I don’t know what their actual hearts are. That’s up to Jesus. But his salvation is open to all (no asterisks in the Bible) to repent and call him Lord. Including this pathetic excuse for a human being. But it’s true. So more time alive and slaving might give him time to truly repent as well. A true Christian doesn’t wish damnation on anybody. Even him.

Again we don’t know what’s in their hearts. They were all psychopaths. But then again Paul the Apostle was a terrorist before the road to Damascus.

But anyway God’s grace is open to all who repent. I’m careful about saying “this person is going to hell”. It’s a very real place.
