Probably not, because it's not transmitted like covid is. However, it is deadlier than covid if you get it. The kill rate is about 40%. Hantavirus is a group of viruses that primarily spread to humans through contact with infected rodents, particularly their urine, droppings, or saliva. The most common rodent carriers in North America are deer mice, white-footed mice, and rice rats.

No, the hantavirus outbreak is not a new pandemic. People educate yourselves. The hantavirus is nowhere near as transmissible as Covid-19. It is mainly transmitted to humans by rodents. Stop licking rats on cruise ships and you should be fine.

Could the virus evolve into a more transmissible strain? Doubtful but not impossible.

I doubt it. Hantavirus has been around for long enough that excessive quarantine protocols are in place for these situations. I don't know if you’ve noticed, but the non-infected passengers on that ship haven’t been allowed to disembark yet. And if they have, it’s to a facility to be tested and potentially quarantined up to 8 weeks.

I think it is perfectly safe to let the stranded passengers off the ship and quarantine in hospitals until the health clearance decides they are safe. This virus is not new, it has existed for many years and it is only transmissible through physical touch.

    No. Don't be silly.

The reason it's being given coverage more than usual is that with the rise of "traditional" diseases like measles and syphilis its an eye catcher.

Just something else to scare White people with.

@NicholasofAustralia like in 2009, a pandemic had to be a somewhat "severe" disease. now a "pandemic" is just anything that spreads. even if it's benign.

I think we'll be able to address or control it better. Most of Africa was able to deal with COVID-19 better than other countries because they had all the policies in place and ready to be utilized after the Ebola outbreak. Now, almost all countries have what they need to fight a pandemic in place, because COVID-19 is still a concern, albeit it a more minor one.

    Pandemic, shmandemic.

I read that is it spread by rat urine and feces. But it's not contagious or spread from human to human.
Why am I not surprised that broadcaster didn't make that clear? They like to spread panic.

I've been wondering this only just in the last couple hours since I watched the news and started to give the news story a bit more of my eyeballs attention as opposed to just surfing my phone with news on the background television lol

    Sigh 😔 😞

Hell yeah, just a trial run to see if it is effective in spreading it to every port of call. This almost sounds like COVID =19 all over again! Pandemic #2 on the horizon

It certainly could. That virus kills people, but of course Kennedy and his ilk will have a solution for it with fruit juice or something equally unlikely.
