At no point has Argentina or spain ever owned them and mo Argentinans ever settled there.
Basically in the early 80s the Argentinan fascist government decided that they wanted them to distract from economic and social problems at home believing that Britain as it had largely dismantled its military by late 1970 wouldn't go to war over the Falklands.
The complete defeat in the Falklands was a major humiliation for Argentinan national pride and they try to remedy this with soccer. Im sure the reason this has come to the fore again is that Argentinan once again is in trouble economically.
The people who live in the Falklands are British and don't want to be part of Argentina.

Bloody Hell we actually agree on something. The world cup isn't the place to bring up stuff like that on the pitch and they should have been kicked out.
The Falklands war was the last time British and USA shot at each other in combat, but while back then it was just US militia wanting a pop at the British the danger now is Argentina has the support of the USA government. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump offers us a deal we can't refuse in the next few weeks.
It's no secret that successive governments have cut military spending to pay for tax cuts leaving the armed forces in a sorry state so I'm sure Argentina must be tempted to try again.
Last time the US and Britain shot at each other was the iraq war.
The US is upset that Britain didn't send the royal navy over the recent iran thing. Threatening to support Argentina or sell F16S is a political tactic. The Danes for instance are selling Argentina their old f16s but its likely the rest womr be sent now.
Probably all of the above to one degree or another. I remember briefly studying this in school and watching a documentary about the war.
I could have this wrong but the islands were controlled or occupied by Spain, France and then a permanent territory by the United Kingdom. It was never thought to have been occupied by Argentina at any time. Again, could be wrong.
I also remember the UK holding more than one referendum and allowing the citizens to vote whether they wanted to remain with the UK or not, which they overwhelmingly do.
The logic to me that Argentina is so close they think it is theirs even if the people don't want to be. It's a geographical thing that they should have the right to them.
Exactly you just can't claim neighbouring territory as your own
due to jokes online to solve disputes by sports boxing or matches. argentina claimed the isle due to territorial water but after brit settled the empty isle. spain bought part from france. but independent from spain.
england lost sport so "need to give land to argentina" . so in reply he said this.
All of it.
Didn't Madam Thatcher put the boot to them in 79?
1982.
If it had been 1979 they would not have dared. The Ark Royal, thd last British carrier capable of deploying large jets like the F4 Phantom & bucaneer was scrapped that year.
If the Argentinans had of waited until 1983 or 84 with the military cutbacks the British military wouldn't have been able to do fuck all. But thd Argentinan government needed a war that year.
Did something happen in 79 for y'all? That was the Iran thing. For us.
Well 1979 was when the last heavy British aircraft carrier was retired in favour of light harrier carrying carriers. Starting in 1970 there were 4 British aircraft carriers, by 1979 there were none. In the early 80s if not for use of the sea Harrier thered be none.
The Royal Navy gave its F4 Phantomx to the RAF who finally gained the mach 2 interceptor it needed. In the 1960s the Royal Navy had 5 to 8 aircraft carriers at different times.
Basically in the 70s the British government realised that it could no longer support a massive military without the empire
LOL, at no point has Canada, Cuba or Greenland expressed any interest in joining the USA, but here we are.
But freedom of speech and all that, means the players expressed an opinion. nothing more.
Has Trump sent in the military or protested that at the UN?
