Is the NHC and NWS misclassifying modern hurricanes and tropical systems?

In this video, I explore the fact last year's "Melissa" could NOT have been a 185 to 190mph landfall in Jamaica, based on the similar Labor Day 1935 hurricane and its reported damages to life, limb, and property. I also explore the fact NHC is classifying almost every thunderstorm over water as a "tropical system" these days, when in fact they used to not do that at all. You'll see how stupid their system has become, since they do not use it correctly in the first place.

The houses in 1935 were made from what we would call "rough cut" lumber and heavy timbers. They wouldn't' even be damaged by what they call Category 4 and 5 hurricanes today.

Rough cut lumber, a 2x4 is really a 2x4. In modern lumber, a 2x4 is actually only 1.5x3.5.

The houses that were destroyed by the Labor Day 1935 hurricane would exceed modern Andrew code or Katrina code. It's still the strongest proven landfall in world history, because they actually had a Barometer at ground level on the islands it hit, while Melissa's central pressure is an EXTRAPOLATION from flight level pressures.

Tell me why regular trees survived Melissa, when the Labor Day hurricane debarked and polished palm trees and ripped people's faces and hands off their bones?

We didn't' see anything like that with Melissa.

It has to do with insurance money. If the storm is classified as "Tropical" and you do not have BOTH the "hurricane insurance" and the federal flood insurance, then any damage is not covered if it's called "tropical". It's a con game.
