u. s. got a louisiana purchase and an alaska purchase. we paid millions in strong money when it was strong.

so what is a fair price to buy empty icy greenland and make it a u. s. territory or state? for denmark to sell its greenland?

Assuming that is true, still why does denmark keep it? Not for ANY rare earth minerals and oil reserves you listed. Proof in action: they do NOT invest to dig. So it is not part of what denmark would sell.
2, Deduct the money for searching a vast place and digging- and moving out the stuff, so it is still now worthless. "As is".
Also denmark "gave up hope" of getting those. So it is not part of what denmark would sell.
Even the water in ice is worthless due to cost to move it. Proof is in action: denmark does not try to move the ice for sale. It is not part of denmark to sell. Just the land without pipes without electricity- unlivable "as is".

pre-develop land, just icy seems too much.
maybe 2,000$ for 850 000 s. m. so maybe $1.7 bn is fair for invastment.
of course we need to ask dwellers. they want charity from denmark. not to join u. s.
so just a new security treaty is possible.

Long term investment for oil/gas exploration, maritime routes, military bases, rare earth minerals etc. The land itself isn't worth much. But china would happily pay 1 trillion im sure.
It would cost 55 billion to give each of the 55,630 greenlanders 1 million dollars each.
