Greenland is a part of North America... sort of... it does reside on the North American tectonic plate. Culturally, while part of Denmark, the indigenous people who are the vast majority there are essentially the same indigenous population (Inuit) that live across the far north (Arctic and subarctic) of North America and far eastern Russia.

So, really, yeah, Greenland is a part of North America.

Before the Davos summit, he said that nothing was off the table. True, he never said he'd invade it, but until Davos, he also never said he wouldn't. As for owning it, do you typically buy things that you don't then own? If you mean Trump didn't intend to own Greenland as an individual, that's right. He intended to buy it from Denmark and make Greenland part of the United States. That was his goal, and he didn't get it. We don't own it, and that was what he wanted. But small concessions were given and he was allowed to say he won, while getting next to nothing and not imposing the tariffs. Everyone's happy.
