1- don't do uppers and lowers the same day
2- depends on what you're trying to do
doing uppers and lowers every other day is good enough. if you have time to do both, then you probably not doing everything you should be doing, or have a lot of time on your hands. also, you need rest because that's how you grow muscles. your muscle fibers tear and they rebuild. that's why you get sore. if you dont get that rest, they won't heal.
here was my schedule when i was working out:
monday- uppers and abs (high weights/low reps)
tuesday- lowers and back (high weights/low reps)
wednesday- nothing
thursday- uppers and abs (low weights/high reps)
friday- lowers and back (low weights/high reps)
saturday- nothing
sunday- nothing
just in case you dont know:
high weights/low reps is for strength building (i do 2 sets of 5)
low weights/high reps is for cutting (i do 3-4 sets of 10)

From experience if you've done hard exercise and you get aches and things you can ease them on something like an excercise bike or treadmill, something that involves moving around more than straining to lift things
I think one day off won't hurt... u don't want push it!

No, rest it for a couple days or so... until the soreness is gone before starting to work out again.
No should rest
