What do you do with a promise ring from an ex?

Someone gave me a promise ring a long time ago. I am married to someone else, but the gold band is still in my jewelry box. What does one do with a gold band from the man you didn’t marry.
I really truly love (d) him. So it feels cruel to get rid of it. Also, it has monetary value. What you would do?

This all depends on whether you want to keep it because it once belonged to a man who you loved in your heart and want to cherish that memory of the relationship for as long as you like or you can get rid of it for its monetary value as you won't be in a relationship with him ever again, won't have to worry about it hanging around to bring up the past and make some extra money.

If I was in your shoes and I truly loved my ex-girlfriend at one point, I'd want to keep that ring forever because it reminded me of a wonderful relationship I once had. Plus, if I ever see that person again, I could always bring that ring with me, reminding them that even though we aren't together anymore, they brought happiness in my life that I'll never forget! This way, they can either say you can keep it or return it to them in hope of them finding another person who he can give the promise ring to.

that's sweet. even though I moved on our relationship was a huge part of my life and a stepping stone to who I am today. once you truly truly love someone I don't believe you even lose that love. you just aren't in love with them anymore, but you will always love them and want the best for them

In this case, that promise ring is symbolism of a building foundation towards the relationship you are currently in, that your previous relationship helped you grow as a person! I believe in that exact theory because if you truly cherished your time with them and loved them at one point, you two could still be best friends, even if aren't in love anymore. If it'd break your heart to part with that ring, there's no reason to get rid of it. Although, don't feel obligated to keep it if you really want to move forward and make extra cash on it as it's the memories you had with your ex-boyfriend that will last forever, not the ring!

think I'll keep it. we thought we would get married. dated for a long time. but I don't think we can be friends. I wouldn't have a problem with it, but not sure he can handle it. I'm married and he got a divorce. I have the children we always talked about having. he doesn't have any. he was the first person to reach out on social media when it began. not sure my husband would approve and we don't live near each other.

With all that information you provided, I can see why this would build up a lot of anger and jealousy in your ex-boyfriend, especially when he's gone through a divorce. It also sounds like your husband doesn't like the idea of you two meeting in thinking someone could go wrong. In that case, just keep it as a personal reminder for yourself then! It's too bad you two can't be friends but still, it's the thought that counts here in this case!

long story short, if any of our best friends circle would be as stupid to choose to marry some slut/jerk we promised each other to shoot that poor bastard in the knee when they walk the long mile 🙂

thought about melting it and making a new ring but it's so sentimental it feels cruel. He probably threw his away, so don't know why I care.

Ha!! I have a couple rings from guys. one has no meaning. Just a small gift from someone. But the promise ring was something someone I was truly in love with gave me. Later I gave him one too (matching gold bands). Wonder what he did with his after all this time?
