How can I get the ring back from ex-fiance?

So, my fiance broke up with me about two weeks ago after finding out about a minor indiscretion of mine from a few months ago at a girls trip, I have no idea how he found out and no one will admit to telling him and he won't tell me how he found out.

Anyway a few weeks ago he comes home and just asks to see my engagement ring, he wants to check something on it, so I hand it over, and he puts it in his pocket and breaks up with me, says he knows I cheated with a stripper at the girls night (I just jerked the guy off, I didn't have sex with him or blow him), gives me a week to move out of his home.

I ask him for the ring back and he says no, I say it's mine it was a gift, he says no I dont' deserve it and I have no need for it, but I Want it to sell it because I need the money for a new place, do I have any legal right to get it back?

Yeah I know I shouldn't have done what I did but we could have worked through it he didn't want to so I don't want to hear that I just want to know how to get the ring back, it's worth a lot and I need that money as he paid the large portion of the bills.

Can people just stop focusing on what I did and blowing it out of proportion, I just stroked him, there was no penetration, I was drunk while out on a girls weekend and some of my friends were egging me on (at least they were friends, someone obviously dobbed me in).

My focus here is on how to get back MY ring.

1. "I know I shouldn't have done what I did but we could have worked through it" You can't decide for him whether he can work through it. That's like you deciding what somebody else really wants on their pizza, only FAR more serious.

2. An engagement ring is a condition given subject to a condition subsequent. You get the ring temporarily and it becomes permanent only if you marry him. If the engagement is broken - for any reason, and it doesn't matter who initiates it - then he gets the ring back. The law is on his side.

3. You should hold off on finding your next fiance for awhile.

REPONSE TO UPDATE: Legally, it is not your ring until you are married. It is his ring and you are spinning your wheels for nothing. Unless he wants to give it to you again as a gift, it is his to keep.

Not to add salt to the wounds but that ring symbolizes two different means between 2 different people. 1 seen it as a commitment and the other seen it as a money/materialistic. Sure jerking a guy is no big deal and it is pretty minor but for him that compromised the commitment. Im sure that ring was no easy feet to get and he worked for it to symbolize his investment in you. It can be debated who it belongs to and both sides will make a good case. The reality of the situation is even if you got the ring and sold it how long would the money last? At one point or another your going to have to be self sufficient

No, it was a gift in contemplation of marriage. If the marriage is off, he can take the ring back. You can sue him for it but you will likely lose. Even though he was fairly cunning about it (deep down you knew he wasn't giving it back) he still has a right to take it back.

If you have a receipt for it, then yes he has basically stolen it from you, and you can get it back.
